Spoilers Ted Lasso Season 3 Discussion

But back to Ted Lasso. Interesting, the way things are turning. Obviously, the addition of Zava is helping the team, but the commentators are right, it's more his ability than Lasso's coaching that have rocketed Richmond toward the top.

I think Zava's going to flame out or quit eventually, and his plot function is to rocket the team up into position to take the top spot, but it'll be the team itself that actually has to win, as a team, the big game, without any superstar carrying them.

They're also heavily telegraphing how this is all going to end, with the things he has going on back home.

That's getting a little awkward, with the real-life acrimonious split between Sudekis and Wilde.

And that last scene. I think Mr. Crimm, whose character I've come to enjoy, has figured out a way to get back into the news biz.

I don't think so. Crimm intentionally threw away his career because he didn't like being used by Nate to attack Ted, he didn't have to burn his source and get fired for it, that was entirely his choice. We did see Crimm with a man last season, when he ran into Ted at the bar in episode 7, it's possible he's more sympathetic to Colin's situation.

The fortune-teller nonsense really put me off.

Glad it's not just me. Gotta see where they go with it, but I have this sinking feeling we're heading towards a message of how we need all be more open-minded (...towards a "profession" of charlatans who prey on the weak and exploit people's grief to squeeze them for money - yeah, I'm going to pass.)

No idea if this is just me being bitter, but I'm really not enjoying seeing good things happen to Nate. It's like rewarding him for being a complete thundercunt to everyone he knew. I really don't want him to get some kind of redemption arc, he doesn't deserve it.

I don't agree. Nate's bad behaviour comes from deeply rooted insecurities and an inferiority complex planted by his parents. These people, when they come to power, often enough overcompensate and sort of take it out on people who are now beneath them on the powerscale. Last episode has shown that he can still be a good guy underneath all that, he just needs to find the right balance and gain some confidence without being a jerk to people.

The new episode was so wonderful - the team is down in the gutter after another major loss and Ted gives them all the evening off in Amsterdam. This spins out into several stories of characters doing their own thing and it was funny at times, heartwarming and deeply personal only to come together at the end feeling rejuvenated and in high spirits. Loved the episode.

I entirely disagree. Spitting on mirrors and being a complete dick to people isn't excused by an over bearing father or his own insecurities. His actions don't speak of someone trying to find the right balance, but someone who believes himself to be above those who helped him get to the point in his life where he can be considered a success. No interest in seeing Ted forgive him for shitting on everyone from a great height. Look how contrite Jamie had to be to turn it around.

They haven't even begun to start that process with the little weasel.

No they haven't but they laid the groundwork with Nate wanting to apologize to Ted, it was just bad timing and circumstances that prevented it. Deep down ( or maybe not so deep down) he knows he was an asshole and currently still is to a degree. He just doesn't have anyone in his circle to tell him so like Roy did for Jaime. At some point it clicked inside Jaime and he realized he was being a dick and started to behave differently and look at him now in the current episode.

Nate may get there, he just needs someone to set his head straight and at this point that can only be Ted. Ted didn't react at all to Nate when he blew up and left Richmond, he just took it in stride but never sought to invite Nate to a 1:1 privately to discuss why this happened - i figure it will happen at some point during this season.

I just have a zero tolerance towards bullies. He openly bullied Will and he can get in the sea for that alone. I just don’t have any interest in a redemption arc for him. At all.

Nate is just a run-of-the-mill incel who lucked into an opportunity by way of fiction. In another life, instead of using him, Rupert would say he has the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone and tell him to piss off.

Fuck Nate.

If your response to the person who lifted you from your dead end life is to try and humiliate them at every turn and shit on everything they believe in, you don’t have insecurities. You’re just an arsehole.

1) And Jamie does?!? 2) I'd argue Nate didn't deserve the heel turn to begin with.

I wonder how many people swooned when they heard Corey Burton? Probably not many. Just one?

Jamie was your standard cocky, arrogant prick that will infest every changing room in football. His own actions led to his downfall and he had to work his way back to redemption. He wasn’t rewarded for his actions, while Nate has been.

And nothing Jamie ever did was as bad as Nate cornering Will and threatening him after he arranged to have a shirt made up for him.

I think almost every interaction Jamie had with Nate in s1 probably qualifies.

Nate's being terrible. But he's hardly irredeemable. Especially on this show.

I think the only character with no redeeming qualities is Rupert. Oh, and Jamie's dad, I suppose.

But Jamie got his comeuppance. At no point was he rewarded for being a total shit. Good things keep happening to Nate when he doesn’t deserve it.

Give it time, the show still has enough episodes left in the season.

Roy having a blast with his training "idea" had me laughing so hard - what a bastard :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

And boy will some people here hate Nate's story this week and i don't get it. We all know why he was/is like that and if the show has shown us anything it's that everybody is redeemable, you just have to want to forgive them. Rebecca was a huge bitch in season 1, Ted forgave her. Jaime was a giant prick from the start and look where he is now ( i actually have become a huge fan of his dynamic with Roy this season, some of the funniest scenes).

So let's see what happens with Nate as the season goes on.

That being said the show feels kind of disjointed for some characters, especially Keeley. She is out there doing her thing, apparently moved on from Roy but what does she bring to the show anymore? Her and Rebecca barely meet anymore, which was an awesome dynamic in season 1 and 2, her relationship with Roy was funny and realistic ( until he blew it) but what's her purpose now in the show? It feels like a Keeley show wrapped around with the Ted Lasso show.

I feel the show has let some of the supporting characters fall way too much by the wayside - Rebecca, Higgins and Keeley to be specific. They don't contribute nearly as much as they used to and to me the season suffers for it. I hope they turn it around somewhat in the remaining season.

Nate's going to be fine. He didn't spit in the mirror.

I really don't know how they're going to resolve Nate's story though. He's good at the job he has, yes? But he can't stay working for the devil, er, Rupert.

I have kind of a bad feeling about Jack. (Making any comparisons to Rupert doesn't help.)
