teacake does Stargate: punch it

Fallout:Jonas returns looking like something out of Logan's Run. Points for interesting fashion with the Langarans we see. Great ep, nice surprise and good drama. Kind of confused by the whole "an explosion caused this problem, we need another explosion to fix it" deal but whatever

There's one weird thing about that episode and it's nice that Joseph Mallozzi recognized that too.

"It was a lot of fun although one element in the story didn't quite pan out -- specifically, Jonas Quinn's love interest, a fellow Langaran named Kianna. On the day the first dailies came in, we were horrified to discover that both actors had unnervingly similar hairstyles that, as a result, made them look like they were related. Which, in turn, made some of the romantic scenes a little ... weird?"

Haha, I just put it down to that 70's sci fi look where everyone looks the same. The rest of the Langarens were diverse though so that excuse doesn't really work.

Sorry to backtrack again, but just watched that clunky Rene/alien Nazis episode and thought it odd writers missed a chance to throw in obvious historical parallel (US utilising Nazi science to advance space tech). Oh well. Also had crazy thought where wondered if anyone had done Trek/Stargate crossovers? It feels like you could use secret tech they acquire as in-universe rationale for why Trek has ships when we clearly won't :)

Death Knell: This was a somewhat choppy episode. Carter fleeing the Robo-Goa'uld alternating with Tok'ra politics. Everything about the Tok'ra is a win for me, their isolationist past, their vulnerability because of declining numbers, their almost cult like group. Let's hope "death knell" doesn't refer to seeing a whole lot less of them.

Heroes Part 1: It's Artie! And at one point he pauses in his list of what Daniel Jackson does and says "artifacts" :D

I really liked this red haired guy. He's cute and engaging and excitable. Hopefully does not die in part two.

And we got..

O'Neill: "I hope shots of my ass serve you well."

Rodney on the Enterprise? WIN!!!!

And yes to Walter's job explanation,

Heroes Part Two:

VALE the beautiful Doctor Janet Frasier.

WHY did they have to kill her off like that :(

A stunning woman who I always enjoyed looking at. I will miss her very much.

Yea, it was tough holding back the tears and not saying anything when you declared your concern for the red head boy making it through Part 2 alive :wah:

And I would like to thank everyone posting in this thread for never having spoiled it, I was quite shocked. I got teary when Wells (?) named his infant daughter Janet.

This is very sad. Did the actor want to leave? She was really a delight and quite slashy with Carter a lot of the time.

I remember being shocked - nay, gutted - at death as well first time I saw series. Am also curious about reasons why. Still, it's always a brave move when long-running series knocks off popular character, so kudos.

The Heroes two parter is perhaps Stargate at it's best in my opinion. All of the action and drama and lulz, with some serious philosophical and moral ponderings too. The ground battle scene was amazing as well.

So the story goes, at the time the episode was written everyone thought season 7 was going to be the last of the series, so the thought was "let's kill someone important," and Dr Fraiser was the one chosen. Ironically, it was during filming of Heroes part 2 that word that the show was picked up for an 8th season came through. The writers have said that had they known when the episode was written that there was going to be an 8th season they wouldn't have killed her.

Still, this I think that was one of the episode's strengths. Death is an unfortunate reality of military life, and very rarely is it going to be some random guy you never got a chance to know. This episode does an excellent job of depicting what that's like for everyone to have lost their friend of co-worker in the line of duty. I particularly like Hammond's speech about how officers are supposed to be detached from those they command, but that sometimes you can't help it but end up getting close to those under your command.

The Heroes two parter really does stand out as one of the best in the Stargate franchise, and the one which perfectly represents it. It is both funny (in part 1) and serious (in part 2).

In some ways this almost guaranteed that T.J. on SG:U was never going to die!

Since they have killed off the doctor in both SG and SG:A

Have you forgotten TJ was dying? If the show hadn't been cancelled, she probably would've died

The stones were a terrible idea. I feel like all they did was suck the tension out of them being so far away from earth with no way home. Even on VOY when they got to communicate with earth finally it was in snippets, they had to draw lots for when they could have their one minute contact. Not walk around for entire episodes working out their absolutely boring relationship issues while in someone else's body. It ruined the suffocation and isolation of being on that ship with a small group of people that didn't much care for each other and didn't know if they would survive much less go home.

And the possible sexing it up element of stone sex was just icky rather than kinky, very flat scenes.

Yeah, it was worse than having virtually an entire season of TNG set on the holodeck. If the writers really needed communications back to Earth, they should've used the more limited device the Tolans used to contact the Nox.

As I recall, she had about five years before her ALS became a serious issue, which would have taken the show to its seventh season had it not been cancelled. TJ wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

I was never against the concept of the stones as keeping everyone in contact with Earth. It was the sloppy execution, specifically that everyone was apparentally told about the Stargate's existence. And everyone except Eli's mother just accepts that a complete stranger is their spouse/partner/child. And the less said about stone sex...
