Tattoos

Oh well, I was just hoping. I confess I spend more time thinking about what not to get right now than what I might, thanks to Cheezburgers tattoo site. Truly cautionary tales!

If I ever do it or even come up with a design I will post it. I'm quite into the idea but I confess I have this fear that I will get a Trek tatt and simultaneously lose all interest in Trek. That seems like the kind of thing that would happen to me.

I have two I'll try and get better pictures later.

A friend of mines son is an up and coming Tattooist, who was raising some money this week for a young lady who was badly injured in a jump from a bridge to the water below,
for $50 he was doing some Lightning Tattoo's with all the money going to this young lady, Not sure how he did.
but here is his site you can check out his art work.

Lol! I'd never worry abt that for ST; I've been a fan for 30+ years. I won't get a Dr. Who tattoo though, for the same reason you said.

Yeah I should not be worried about it for the same reason, but it crosses my mind.

^^I understand wanting your first tattoo to be full of meaning and something you can appreciate forever. My first is full of meaning and I wish with all my heart I didn't have a reason to wear it; but I now feel it is a part of me.

^Thank you TZ! I needed some fun!

Josh's fb page showcases some really great work!

This is perhaps a little bit off-topic, but do any of you have experiences with tattoos over scars? Is it possible to tattoo a rather bulging very old scar and are there any problems to be expected (after all, scar tissue has a different structure than uninjured skin)?

The reason for me asking is that I had a surgery as a baby, 50 years ago, and since the scar grew with me it's rather large now (about 4 x 8 inches, including the scars of the stitches). As I've been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for quite a while, I wondered if it'd be possible to hide the scar under a tattoo.

Apart from the esthetical aspects - I am not sure if the tattoo wouldn't outline the scar rather than hiding it - would there be any medical or technical issues that speak against it? Are there any precautions I'd have to take or is a special treatment required afterwards?

No. I asked two skin specialists and both agreed that there would be very little effect. It's not so much that the scar per se is very thick, but I am about 4 times the size now that I was at the time of the surgery. The scar just grew with me and therefore it's 4 times as wide now.
Regarding the thickness of the scar, I had pretty good success with special scar reduction band-aids, though. The scar got much smoother, less bulging and more elastic.

Tattooing is a rather new fashion over here, particularly in the county, so that my docs couldn't tell me if a tattoo on a scar was possible or not. I didn't inquire at the local tattoo studios because I've seen samples of their work and the quality (or lack thereof, rather) is not very convincing. If I get a tattoo I'll go to a good artist in Munich or Ratisbone. Atm I'm still in the first stages of planning and working on the design. I'm thinking of a slightly deco/tribal version of the Welsh dragon =)

^There are actually artists who specialize in covering up scars! Like with any tattoo, the most important thing is research, research, research. Find an artist who is skilled in that speciality, whose work you like, and who has a good reputation, but a google image search is enough to show you that in the hands of a good artist, the results can be impressive.

wow! These are awesome! Thanks for the link!!!
I love that tattooed black lace bra. Since breast cancer runs in my family, I'll propably get such a bra myself in a few years. I'd like a light blue one, though =)
At least that's an easy to wash one and you needn't be afraid the hooks might damage the rest of your laundry :D

Some of these scars are a lot worse than mine, so covering it should be no big prob. Now I just need to find a really good artist who specializes in scar tattoos and doesn't live half a globe away.

^Yeah, the black bra was very pretty. Tattoos are an area where you really get what you pay for. Do the research, be willing to drop a lot of cash, and it will be worth it.

Oh, and I saw this on a blog today and thought of you, teacake, with love. :)
