TAS made real....

TOS could have done this with a matte painting. I think I might retouch this by adding Spock, Sulu and Uhura into the image.
Yeah, but then you get into the problem of matching it with all the non matte shots on stage. You see this on the TOS-R where they added these mattes and they go in close and suddenly it feels like they're in a different place.

To make it work would be like the Delta Vega shot in WNMHGB or the Kaylar fortress in “The Cage” or the starbase beam down in “The Menagerie.” It would be a quick shot of a few seconds onscreen.

What would the interior of this vessel look like to you, Warped9?
I have a general idea. The forward most part—the cockpit or flight deck—would be elevated so the seated pilot and navigator could actually see forward properly through the viewport. This section would necessitate one to crouch a bit since the ceiling wouldn’t allow standing upright. The aftward section would have a ceiling allowing personnel to stand upright. In standard configuration it would allow 2-4 to sit up forward. The aft section would be primarily for cargo transport or it could be configured for other purposes such as personnel transport, science survey equipment or medical transport.

I have been thinking of building a partial interior to allow me to depict what could be seen if we were looking out through the forward viewport.

But presently I’m working on the Kzinti police cruiser.

Though you've said before that you don't see the comparison, you do realize this sounds an awful lot like a ship that would logically evolve into a runabout, right?

I never denied this could have been a precursor to a runabout. Runabouts might also exist in the TOS era. I just think this isn’t as large and spacious as a TNG era runabout.

Loving the Kzinti ship! Makes me want o go find some plastic plates at the Dollar Store and try to build one of these things!

Are you going to go with pink as the final color or play around with some other options?

--Alex

Well, I don’t want just another grey coloured ship. Maybe not the pink as seen onscreen, but I might play with those hues as well as explore reds and oranges.

Maybe a dusty rose or taupy pink?

I wanted the detail on the upper section to somehow make me think of animal claws. The onscreen version doesn’t actually have much detail so I’m trying to flesh this out.

You could go with like a pearlescent champagne or rose gold coloring (with the appropriate level of aztecking) that’s more readily doable in a CG environment than what was possible back in the 70’s.

If I want it to look more consistent with the TOS era as we saw it than aztecking or pearlescent painting would look out of place. My goal is to make these models look like miniatures we conceivably could have seen onscreen back in the day.

The TOS-R Enterprise and D7 models did have very subtle aztecking. :)

Or maybe I’m thinking of the “Trials and Tribblations” models. It’s been so long, I honestly can’t remember now.

Yes, you're thinking of the "Trials And Tribble-ations" versions. The original miniatures had no such aztecking.

The last major thing I have to do is depicting the extended landing struts. So I will be able to depict this model in flight as well as landed with stuts extended.

The implication on the televised version is the landing struts look rather like clawed feet. It could be visually interesting so I will try to reconcile that idea into something not too unbelievable.

In terms of scale I'm seing this craft being comprised of two or three decks. And also being mindful that Kzinti look to be generally larger than humans so that could affect ceiling height.

Doh! You know it hadn't occured to me to actually look at what kind of plastic plates could be available and working from that. That could be interesting.

Before I saw your initial renders above, I thought you might have interesting decisions to make regarding hull shapes, as it's seen edge on.

But I watched the episode, and found the overhead view near the end of the episode, that shows it's saucer shaped! :)

Looking good! I know it's not the same design, but the SFB hull colours of Kzinti ships seem to be brick red related.

Red being the colour of human blood would have a connotation for us, but not necessarily for an alien such as Kzinti. Maybe for them a pink hue has a different connotation than it would for us.

In like manner the TOS Klingon battle cruiser was painted something like violet and turquoise or light blue. Doesn’t seem menacing...to us. Later Klingon ships were made grey or darker green to make them seem more businesslike and menacing, but that is to human sensibilities.
