SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

In the next Blu-Ray rerelease, Lucas will replace all the main characters with muppets!:rommie:

Yikes! The prices for the 2006 unedited dvds of the OT have already begun to raise. Currently $40 for each movie on Amazon.

So glad I got my copies the week they were released.

So here’s the thing: if these changes are legit and you think they’re awful, don’t buy the set. Please. People have complained for years that they don’t like what Lucas is doing to these films, but they generate so much money that his tinkering is financially validated. Stop doing that and he might (might) get the hint.

This. Same story over and over... People bitch about Lucas, then give him their money. Then bitch some more, then give money again... Fuck that. Either stop buying his shit, or stop bitching.

What if you've stop buying, can you still bitch?

Unless Lucas releases remastered original editions of the first films on Blu Ray, I've bought my last copy of them. And I'm cool with that. Don't need the latest format just 'cause, and my copies of the prequels are good enough.

I might pick up the Clone Wars series and I'm highly interested in the live action show. But I'm satisfied with what I have already as far as the already existing movies go.

Having watched the clips I can say that the "Nooo!" doesn't bother me at all and I was worried it would. RotJ has a lot of flaws but the throne room scenes were epic and one of my favorite Star Wars sequences and thankfully this didn't shift my opinion of it.

The Krayt Dragon scream is shit, though.

For the sake of argument:

I really don't see why anyone's complaining about blinking Ewoks. It's a small touch that makes what are pretty obviously guys in rather unconvincing costumes look a little less like guys in costumes.

I can only understand this from a strict purist standpoint of wanting the films as they were originally released in cinemas; but it was clear from the start we'd be getting some update of the special edition (as the previous DVD release had updated it) and giving Ewoks blinking movement does sound like a good call there.

And judging from the clip on youtube? It looks pretty good.

In the one clip I've seen on youtube, the blinking is not overdone, and it didn't turn out to look creepy as some still comparison suggested it might.

One of the things that's wrong with the krayt dragon call is that I can't for a moment hear Sir Alec Guinness in the voice.

This is the first edition of the OT that I'm not rushing out to buy. I'll live if it sells out before I make up my mind too. I have faith that another edition will be released on Blu-ray. Or, if not, that one will be released someday on a superior format.

Yeah, I don't mind that it changed. It just sounds really shitty and unprofessionally done.

I actually like the Artoo Endor bunker change, from what I've seen.

I love my 2006 dual DVD release sets. I can watch my favorite classics, and if I get the notion, I can pop in the other disc and watch George's ideas on what he wanted instead. Many of the changes I like, some I don't, but I can always go back and watch the original theatrical releases anytime I want. Now, I'd love to have that option on Blu-ray, but if it doesn't happen, I'm still okay with it.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about the quality of the transfer to Blu-ray than the odd FX tweak. I couldn't see much improvement in the 1080i broadcast version over the DVD version, so if that's what we're getting, I shall probably pass on upgrading my IV-VI set.

Well, I've never seen the OT on the big screen, and I'm just hoping that someday I have a nice big HDTV, and the media to match it so that I can experience that. So I'm always hoping for a dramatic improvement to the visual quality made for higher resolutions.

It bugs me in the sense of "what's the point?" In the probably 50 times I watched ROTJ never once did it bother me that the Ewoks didn't blink. If it weren't pointed out to me I probably wouldn't even notice. It just... doesn't matter. I mean, did they not have CGI blinking technology whenever the first SEs were done.... or the DVDs?

As a selling point for Blu-rays it's really lacking. As part of George's seemingly lifelong crusade to tweak every frame of 30 year old movies, it's just sad.

Yeah, it's as distracting now as it was when the SE's were first released in theaters. No matter how much you try to push it out of your mind, you're always a little bit aware of what looks new, or what looks out of place-- and it takes you out of the story every time.

Maybe LATER generations won't notice or care, but for someone like me who's been around from the beginning, it does make a difference.

Anyone that buys these things are basically worse than Hitler and Stalin combined.
