This was fantastic. Even better than the Universal tribute and "Baby." My new favorite episode.
The character art and animation was great (except Dean was a little bland). The backgrounds were fantastic. They should do one of these every year.
I loved all the Scooby Doo tropes, like Dean making and scarfing a giant sandwich (although I don't think they actually had any Scooby snacks) and the hallway chase (with a completely unexplained Scrappy cameo). It was pretty slick how the characters just skidded around elements that were heretofore nonexistent in their universe, like casual sex propositions and decapitated corpses. It was so Dean-like for him to be protective of the Scooby Gang's innocence, but be willing to make an exception for his Daphne lust-- but, given the painted bookcase and the newspaper without words, I'm sure he would have been more horrified than pleased at what he found under that purple dress. Which was undoubtedly discussed in the writer's room.
But for all the hilarity, it wasn't just a lark. When things got real for the Scooby Gang-- everybody getting knocked around and Shaggy getting a broken arm-- it was horrifying. Like Dean (and Sam, as he eventually admitted), we love these characters so much that it was painful to see them suffer real injuries, and real fear, and real disillusionment. The episode ended the only way it could, with the gang safe and sheltered again.
There's a lot of questions raised that weren't answered. How and why did a haunted TV do this? Did the Scoobyverse really exist prior to this incident, as in Heinlein's World-as-Myth, or was it created spontaneously? Will it continue to exist? If so, will that reality be permanently affected by these events? But I should really just relax.
A spin-off series? Sure. An annual event? Absolutely. Hong Kong Phooey? Maybe.

I was surprised by how gentle they were with the Scooby gang, there was real affection there not just fodder for cynical humor. We didn't get the usual easy Shaggy is a stoner and Velma is a lesbian shtick. It also made the gruesome violence effective because it looked so wrong and out-of-place within that context.
For a certain generation of us Scooby Doo was ever-present and can relate to it being an anchor of stability for a child like Dean. It's too bad that nowadays channels can't freely show Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry cartoons before and after school (only available on Turner channels now in case you don't know). It does seem Scooby has kept in the public awareness to some degree but even as an adult I miss those being around all the time.

^^ If you want to see a more satirical pastiche of the Scooby Gang, there's an episode of Venture Brothers with an aged gang still together, with Fred as practically a cult leader and the rest as you'd expect. It's pretty funny.
Scoobynatural totally lived up to the insane levels of hype. My only criticism is that the episode was too short; the story beats were a little rushed and I want to spend more time with those characters. Maybe we'll get a Scoobynatural 2 next year? One can only hope.
Ignoring the Supernatural part of the episode, I really enjoyed seeing the Scooby Gang in a darker world where ghosts and monsters are real. It fits those characters so well. I think I need to watch Scooby Doo on Zombie Island now.

^^ You'd probably like Mystery Incorporated. I normally don't like re-imaginings, but that was really good.
Amazing show..... and the Twin Peaks crossover....!!!
I've heard some great things about Mystery Incorporated, but I never got around to watching it. I think I'm going to have to bump it up to the front of my queue. It's exactly what I'm looking for in a Scooby-Doo show.

Tonight's show was another solid offering, but I was disappointed at the lack of focus on Gabriel. We got just enough for Sam to ask what happened to him (while thankfully removing the stitches on his mouth), but before he could answer Dean interrupted, and Gabriel was acting like he was terrified of the brothers instead of happy to see old friends. I certainly hope next week we get some forward motion here (seriously, I was bummed out he didn't get any spoken lines).
Odd episode, seemed a bit of a filler, but at least we got all the set-up out of the way. This Gabriel is clearly not "our" Gabriel, so I'm really eager to see what's going on there.

I wouldn’t really call it filler as the story was how they got hold on one of the ingredients, plus all the Gabriel stuff.
As soon as I saw "Rhode Island" and "1925," I knew we were in for something Lovecraftian. I always love the historical stuff and stories that involve the Men of Letters, so I really enjoyed this episode. It's interesting that there is another team of Legacies out there, and I wonder if they have done anything besides guard the Flapper Demon all these years-- or what they will do now. I hope they are not forgotten, because I've been hoping that the series will do more with the MOL, including a more Hunter-oriented revival of the group.
Flapper Cthulhu made for a cool monster. I knew that it wouldn't turn out good when they found her laying there unchanged-- and not insane-- after almost a century. I wonder if her and her boyfriend are related to the Leviathans. And Dean got off a few good lines in this one. "Oh, my god! That's tragic! Like a Hallmark movie with tentacles!"
I wonder if Sam still has those Post-It notes on his back.
