Supernatural: Season 10 (Spoilers!)

No! Demon Dean was the best thing to happen to this show in years. If Sam cures him after only two episodes I'm going to be pissed.

Me, too. I want it to drag on a bit. I want Dean to go on a rampage. I want some serious shit to go down!

I think it would be very interesting to have Dean go after Crowley---I think Crowley would actually be afraid of Dean. So far, everything is very scattered. I think curing Dean too quickly would make it even less cohesive.

Quoted for truth!

I really enjoyed the first episode. I loved the adventures of CrossroadsDemon and Squirrel! I had one entire episode of pure joy. Hubby and I were revelling in it, then he said, "Lets not get too attached. You know this show. They get a good thing going and then they just throw it away."

What happens in episode 2? They throw it away. Grrr.

I actually told Hubby I'd give it up to 3 more episodes, then I may be out. He laughed at me. "You can't leave this show, it is the TV version of the Hotel California. I checked out of it years ago, but I can never leave!"

What demon magic does this series possess? :rommie: I would have quit any other show years ago...

I have a feeling Dean is going to escape the chair as a Demon, somehow, and still go on a rampage. I do see this being drug out a bit.

I watched ep 2 last night. I assumed the title "Reichenbach" would be a Sherlock Holmes reference, but I can't see any connection, unless they're equating Dean succumbing to his demon side with Holmes going over the edge. So far this season has a grittiness and intensity and sense of direction greater than the previous two seasons, which were a bit more fantastical in approach. I don't see any new breakout characters, but enjoyed Loser Lester while he lasted.

While looking for episode summaries I was surprised to find that Supernatural is covered by The Christian Post!

Huh. Well, that didn't turn out as I had hoped. I thought this one had some very good scenes but overall, found it a bit disappointing. Such a HUGELY important plot wrapped up so very damn fast----phooey.

I do wonder, though, exactly what Crowley has planned. I *did* enjoy a look into the day-to-day operations of Hell; that was kinda cool.

So, now we have a new big bad in the redhead from Oklahoma? Another demon, then. *sigh* OK.

I'm surprised they didn't drag out the Dean'mon thing. However, I do believe Cains mark and the blade will play a part again. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Demon Dean.

Question, why are Cas and this woman traveling in a car? Wouldn't Ms. Angel have the power to just teleport them anywhere they need to go? All these problems driving they've been having, I've just been yelling at my screen, Angel, teleport!

Which brings up another topic, do you guys feel they have de-powered Angels over the course of this show? I feel like Angels don't seem as powerful as they use to. In the past, Angels were always superior to Demons, even the King of Hell. It seemed like Angels were much more powerful than they are now.

I'm not surprised that they didn't drag out Demon Dean. To be honest I'm surprised it wasn't resolved at the end of the season premiere. That said, I wish they'd kept it going for a bit longer, though I certainly didn't expect that to happen. Oh well.

And yeah, they've pretty clearly depowered angels. It happens in pretty much every show like this. They introduce a new creature that is incredibly powerful at first, so as to give the main characters a challenge, but over time they seem to get weaker because otherwise they'd just wipe the floor with the heroes. They've done the same with demons. Demons were nigh invincible back in the first couple of seasons, but now the Winchesters can go toe-to-toe with them in a fight, and it seems like all demons can do is telekinetically throw people around a bit.

I don't think most angels can teleport anymore (one exception being Metatron). Their wings were burned when they were cast out of heaven. My guess is that the burned wings also decreased their powers to a significant degree.

Edit: supernatural.wikia has a slightly different take:

A fallen angel is an an angel who was either expelled from Heaven or who voluntarily left. They are not a class of angel and therefore they look no different than normal angels. An angel who has fallen may or may not retain all of his or her abilities, depending on the rank of the angel. For example, a fallen Seraph, like Castiel, retains all of his powers, whereas a standard angel would lose a few of his or her powers, such as smiting and healing. A fallen angel's blood can potentially be used in the Anti-Leviathan killing weapon. Known banished angels include Lucifer and Castiel. Angels who fell on their own accord--voluntarily left--include Anna Milton and Gabriel. Castiel has fallen twice: once when rebelling against the Apocalypse and the second (and current time) when he left of his own accord. Since he is a Seraph, he retained all of his powers and abilities. As of Sacrifice, Metatron's betrayal has caused all angels in Heaven to fall to Earth, and burned off all their wings.

Yes. That's why they have to use the "elevator" portal-thingy that Metatron (or his people) created in the playground.

Not only that but with Crowley now it's hard to take Hell and demons too seriously. One thing I haven't missed is Sam and Dean constantly getting pinned against the wall by supernatural forces.

I'm surprised they didn't drag out the Dean'mon thing.

Probably because of the blowback they got for soulless Sam. Some fans can't cope with even an obviously temporary character shift.

Supernatural's biggest obstacle is the length of its seasons. Even temporary shifts like Soulless Sam or "There's an Angel inside Sam's head" drag on a lot longer than they need to because, instead of dealing with the main plot, they get sidetracked by filler episodes.

I just finished Season 9 on Netflix today, and it will probably be a while before I get to see any of Season 10.

This is one of those shows that, whenever I watch it, I can't help wondering how it's ultimately going to end. With so much of the main plot being about Angels and Heaven and "Who is going to be the new God," part of me kind of hopes the final story arc deals with the return of the REAL GOD...the original God that abandoned them all.

Yeah, after the last couple of seasons I've concluded that they've drunk the stand-alone-episode well dry. Future shows should be pretty much all arc.
EDIT: Thinking about it, it's kind of hard to maintain the "we are hunters" thing when they're so involved with angel politics and stopping apocalypses. After the first couple of seasons, the last time they were (mostly) all about hunting was season 6.

That is a thread they've left hanging for a long time, and they'd be fools not to tackle it for the ending. Though casting might be difficult! Maybe one of the boys with "join with V'Ger" and the other will keep going, knowing his omnipotent brother is watching out for him from above.

There's a part of me that thinks this show will end with one of the brothers becoming God and the other brother becoming the King of Hell.

Which I find regrettable. First, soulless Sam was loads of fun. Second, what's wrong with shaking up the status quo?

God knows I love this show, but I having Dean be cured by the third flipping episode was lame. He was an awesome demon, and the The Reason You Suck Speech he gave Sam was all kinds of cool.

Crowley being bored in hell and then going around saving the day made up for that, though.

That's weird. I had that same thought the other day.
