Spoilers Supergirl - Season 5

I think that Netflix's international distribution deal with The CW ended when the overall distribution deal with the channel ended, and only the U.S. distribution terms remain in effect.

I do agree with you, though, that Supergirl is in zero danger of being cancelled.

Well, I guess that Supergirl could stop when Melissa Benoist's contract will end. I read somewhere that season 6 could be her last one. Plus, if audience continues to be weak (I know the 4th episode aired Sunday marked a rebound but hey, it could have been an accident -> we must wait next Sunday to see if it was an happy suprise or a slow but sure climb) and then, with the Superman & Lois future serie, Supergirl will always be able to make appearances from time to time to help her famous cousin, right?! :)

For info, Supergirl is aired at 10:30 pm on Summer ... when a few people still are in front of their TV screen but we have 2 episodes
each time and we are behind of 1 season each time, which is a habit here.

No argument on the ratings stabilizing, but they can't go much lower. We are talking less than one million people. Enterprise got canceled for less. That said, I agree they won't cancel the show, but that doesn't mean it's doing well. It just means CW likes it. There's really no argument that Supergirl is a ratings winner. Just spin.

And I absolutely believe the creative direction of the show is the problem. I REALLY hope Superman and Lois has a better writing team.

The TV ratings landscape was very different in 2005. About as different as TOS ratings were to TNG syndicated ratings back in 1987. If you'r going to argue ratings trends, you need data point a bit newer than 14+ years ago. ;)

They're not. Give it a rest.

Must be hitting a nerve. The truth can do that.

The threshold may have gone down, but it doesn't change that the audience is almost non-existent, and that's a creative issue. Note that when the crossovers happen, the ratings skyrocket.

In the old days, "Sweeps" periods (where practically any show on TV did 'Big' episodes with stunt casting/story plots, etc.) were in the Months of November and February - so yeah, nothing the CW shows should be singled out for.

So can endless repetition. We know, we know, anything other than wall-to-wall straight white men on TV is a pandering woke travesty. We know, we know, Superman can beat up everybody and should never display grace or humility, because that stuff is for cucks. You could spare us the tedium by just putting all that shit in your sig, instead of harping on it over and over again in every single post.

Now you're putting words in my mouth--taking something I never said, and making an argument against it. I'm not asking for straight white men wall to wall. But Supergirl is an extreme and they only have these characters clearly just to check a box and get on their soapbox while being fake outraged whenever someone challenges the actual pandering.

And sorry, but Superman is the greatest force for good, and if the writers need to weaken him and turn him into a submissive wimp to make Supergirl relevant, it doesn't say much about their confidence in their abilities and the character. Grace and humility are fine. Being a complete jobber is not.

Compare to Wonder Woman, who is strong and can even have Superman get the better of her without losing a thing.

When something is not organic to the premise or the story, and it's shoved in there anyway, that is blatant pandering and wokeness, and Supergirl does that all the time, and I believe that's a huge reason their ratings have tanked over the last few seasons.

Out of curiosity, why does Supergirl's ratings matter, if the show is right now apparantly un-cancable.

Sofar, season 5 isn't really doing it for me. I can't really place it, but I'm just not that drawn in. It all feels a bit flat and uninteresting.

This is sad but true. I feel the same. Though the last couple of eps have each seen a slight uptick in my interest, so maybe we're getting somewhere?
