Geez mate if you're going to insult us get it right - Aussie not Ossie (which i gather is also an unflattering term used for former East-Germans)
I was going for the American accent on it. (Although it still doesn't work, 'cause Ossie Ostrich is still pronounced the same as Aussie. Damn it.)
Not for me. I'd pronounce the former as "ah-see" (like actor Ossie Davis) and the latter as "aw-see" or "aw-zee." Isn't Australia sometimes nicknamed Oz, though?
"Incorrect" is not a thing when talking about accents. It's just different. Maybe in your regional accent, "os" and "aus" are homophonous, but not in mine.
I didn't know that was the name of a specific person (or cartoon character? No idea). As I said, I was thinking of Ossie Davis, who did pronounce it the way I said.
Aus = Auz = Oz It makes it more obvious to say it with an Australian accent, it puts more of a buzz (as opposed to hiss) on the "s."
Presumably by analogy with L. Frank Baum's Oz books, to suggest the idea of Australia as an exotic, magical land. There's actually a currently airing PBS nature documentary series about Australia called Magical Land of Oz.
