Spoilers Supergirl - Season 1

I would think of the issues with this idea that it would move to CW is the actor's contracts and salary requirements - so yeah moving production would save some money but from we know of network salaries compared to CW, I would think various people would have to disappear (Although I was surprised to find that Jesse L Martin seems to the highest paid actor on the flash...).

It's not like he geographical separation has stopped them so far... And heck, enough of the stars of these shows still LIVE in LA anyway - or at least still maintain a house there.

Mark
Scheduling wise (for crossovers), it would be alot easier on staff/crew/actor/actresses if they are across the street from each or in the same city. Even if the actors all mainly live in LA they don't during filming. Only during the off season they go home.

IIRC, Duchovney wanted to move production to LA because he married Tea Leoni, and being in his right mind, wanted to spend as much time as possible with her.

Man, always had a thing for her. Started right when I saw the very short-lived sitcom "Flying Blind" where she played a free-spirited, red-haired, party-girl dating a sort-of-up tight straighter laced guy. Scene comes to mind where she's eating an egg roll, her boyfriend is watching with a gawk to his face and she asks what's wrong, "I suddenly realized why there's so many Chinese."

Anyway, I'm sure the show is renewed, it's just a matter of announcing it. On CBS or CW, whatever. I do hope they're not really moving production, I think that'd really hurt the look of the show.

I believe it switched after the movie, when Duchuvny wanted to be a movie star and work out of LA. Last 4 seasons at least, were not in Vancouver.
I knew about the movie beforehand, but it became pretty obvious to me once we started seeing the Southwest style houses, and the desert instead of the forest.

Here's a rumor filled post about why Supergirl is having problems getting renewed for season 2:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/supergirl-renewal-hinged-budget-talks-move-cw-possible

That article is a bit contradictory, it says CBS wants the show back but on a smaller budget, so they're considering moving it to CW where it would have an even smaller budget?
If they can agree on the budget cut, what's then the point in switching networks?
And if they can't agree, how is an even smaller budget supposed to get the show made?

Supergirl IS NOT HAVING TROUBLE GETTING RENEWED because it's ALREADY BEEN RENEWED.

The network is simply waiting until the Upfronts to make the announcement.

I would point out that, several years ago, Moonlight was renewed by CBS for a second season (or at least, everyone involved said it was renewed, including higher-ups at CBS), and then CBS unrenewed the series because of money issues.

^ Moonlight wasn't putting up the kind of numbers that Supergirl has, IIRC.

Moonlight hadn't also made casting announcements for its second season the way that Supergirl has.

Yeah, barring some sort of official word or link to behind-the-scenes stuff confirming it this seems like wishful thinking to be so adamant.

Mind, I'm pretty sure they'll work it out since there seems to be a ton of goodwill and desire to bring it back. But no reason to get hopes too high.

I don't think CBS should cut the budget. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money, to invest enough to make something as good as you can in order to get the most return in the long run. The show's production values are a major part of what makes it effective. Cutting back on them isn't likely to help the show's ratings in the long run.

Well it sounds like the place where they're really trying to save money is in the filming location, not in the effects. And it's easy to understand how producing the show in LA would add a lot to the production budget just by itself, even before you factor anything else in.

Personally I thought the show often looked a little too bright and sunny in the first season, so I wouldn't really mind it looking a bit closer to the moodier style of the CW shows. And hopefully some of their edge and seriousness might carry over a bit as well.

Smallville filmed in the Vancouver area and looked bright and sunny the first 4 seasons. I love the feel of the series.

My statement is not "wishful thinking" because it's based on the following facts:
1) Lynda Carter having already been announced as joining the series in Season 2 as the President of the United States

2) Greg, Andrew, Chyler, and Melissa having all publicly talked about Season 2's existence in concrete terms

3) Ali Adler having confirmed publicly that positive conversations had occurred between CBS and herself and the other producers

4) Les Moonves publicly stating that virtually every one of CBS' Freshman series were "expected to be renewed"

Maybe they could just fire Calista Flockhart. She's probably the highest paid actor on the show (even though she's just a B-list actress, they seemed to make a big deal out of her being on the show). Heck, fire Flockhart and the actress that plays Lucy Lane, move the show to Vancover and the CW network, and they'd save money and probably get a quality increase.

^^ Those all make it likely, but not a certainty. Wouldn't be the first time casting announcements were made, plans were made, that fell through.

^ No.

That's true, but they probably want to save money anywhere they can. I'm just saying that it can be self-defeating to focus on saving money in the short term over making an investment in the long term. Certainly it's possible to spend too much -- see most modern action/SF/fantasy movies and their overindulgence on interminable and cluttered effects sequences -- but you can get more payoff in the long run by not skimping on quality in the short run.

I like the fact that Supergirl has its own distinct look, feel, and flavor from those shows. I don't want it to be homogenized with them.

I also think it's actually a more serious show, in that it actually confronts moral and political issues that the CW shows avoid. It doesn't just show illegal detention of supervillains as an incidental plot point, it confronts the immorality of it. It uses its inhuman characters for allegories about racism and intolerance, issues that the CW shows only quietly address by including diverse characters without comment. It's also unapologetically liberal, while the Arrowverse so studiously avoids politics that even when Oliver Queen (traditionally the most famous liberal activist character in all DC-dom) ran for mayor, we never got a hint of where he actually stood on the issues. Just because the Arrowverse shows are darker and grittier, that does not make them more serious. Optimism is not frivolous or shallow, and Supergirl proves that in the same way that Star Trek proved it 50 years ago.
