Spoilers Supergirl - Season 1

I'm still harboring the theory that Alex's birth name is "Luthor", so if she's smarter than the next person in the room, that's not an issue.

The Supergirl season finale suffered yet another drop from the previous week. Episode 19 from 4/11/16 pulled 6.118 (viewers in millions), but E20--the 4/18/16 finale dropped to 6.109. Apparently, the set up from E19 was not enough to bring back the same numbers, or draw anyone else in just to see how this new series wrapped up its season.
So Tiny CGI Superman and the Boots of Steel didn't draw the audience that the show-makers were hoping for.

Why did so many people who seem to hate the show more passionately than I like most shows watch the whole season? Are you guys just masochists who like the torture yourselves?
Some people are just okay criticizing things, and hope beyond hope that such things improve rather than continue on. Especially things they otherwise like.

I'd rather be one of those people than a happy-go-lucky derpophile who just shrugs everything off and is content with mediocrity.

Mediocrity is such a subjective thing that who are you to judge anyone that way. I'm content with a show that has great likable characters and provides a fun hour every week. The show isn't perfect and I do hope the writing improves but Alex, Kara, and Cat are way down the list of things wrong with this show. Heck I'd say they are what is right with the show.

A person who knows how to think for himself and keep up with a conversation.

Case in point: Whatever it is you just said and how zero of it relates to anything I've said.

Except for the last part of your post which kind of insulted everyone who likes the show or at least that's how I saw it. Could be wrong though. ;)

The target audience weren't born when any of these aired or even give a crap about them. Hell I'm not the target audience and I don't give a crap either.

I mean for god sake, The Superman / Aquaman Hour of Adventure aired in 1967.

Err...you completely missed the point: its happened so often and for so many decades that there's an audience expectation of Kryptonians being able to fly in space. Obviously, that means audience expectations across generations.

 No, and it would not, since by now, the audience knows Superman would be reduced to less than a real cameo / marginalized to make Supergirl appear heroic strong during a crisis.

Finally got to watch the finale and now I genuinely hope they get a second season.

I also hope that DC finally lifts the embargo that they have in place for their big three (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman).

For some reason I think they have a better chance of renewal than the embargo being lifted though.

What's a derpophile? Should I be insulted since I actually do really enjoy the show. It might not be perfect, but it's still a fun superhero adventure, with a likeable cast.

You can call it a "narrative decision" all you want, but in reality it's just poor writing.
That's true. The show has been embarrassingly bad that way since Episode 1. However, it has gotten progressively less bad. I almost didn't cringe throughout the last two episodes. Or maybe I just gotten used to it? Maybe next season it will even get to common sense.

And it can't be that bad if my biggest complaint about the last episode is that the broadcast from the old analogue equipment ended up 16/9 and HD on everyone's screens. ;)

It's bizarre that General Lane knew where Fort Rozz the whole time and so did J'onn, maybe, but neither of them thought it was a likely hiding spot for... Surely the Fortress knew it was there? Rozz and the Fortress' super near sentient computers had to be on the same "network" surely if their connectivity is FTL and intra galactic?

^That's been my second biggest WTF of the series. The first is that there are a group of evil supermen who want to take over Earth and haven't (seriously, it would take them, what, an afternoon?). Second is that Ft Roz has been just sitting there unguarded and unstudied.

Third is those jail cells at the DEO. No toilets, no beds, one backless... ottoman? The hell? What, does a PFC get sent in to clean up their poop once a day? Do the prisoners sleep on the floor?

This is how the DEO gets their secret funding, by providing tours of exotic & strange creatures from across the galaxy. Only after each tour you must sign a NDA or else get a visit from one of these creatures.

Exactly.... hard to believe the writers screwed this one up. ... but I guess they needed Alex to save her so...

Break.... Helen Slater (Eliza Danvers) can't act her way out of a paper bag... eeesh....

Well, Animated Superman needed these:

The sequence in question, especially with Kara losing consciousness and slowly falling back to earth, looked like a nicely done Superman Returns homage to me.
