Super Disapointed With The Burn Cause

Maybe some nefarious plan that has been set in motion that would allow the last 930 years of Trek to be made into other shows, something like what was done with Enterprise.

What might have been a better storyline is that a large dilithium space amoeba started sucking all of the juice out of all of the dilithium in space while hiding in a black hole - TOS storyline base.
No that would’ve been absolute shit.

Sigh, you are taking this too seriously. You seem too focused on "universe" vs "galaxy". Nerys Myk nailed it. I've worked with scientists in the past, plus other "educated" folks who make such generalized comments/phrases that would go against the point you are trying to say.

You are being a pedantic snob. Outside of publishing papers and giving speeches/lectures, lot of scientists and other educated professionals do make such comments that might be technically misleading, but that's how conversations go, especially to relieve stress, have fun and relaxing, rather than having a stuffy workplace.

Pedantic snob?
You don't understand where I'm coming from, so I'd suggest you refrain from making such assumptions.

I was using Milky Way and Universe as a method to illustrate how idiotic people can look when saying one word while meaning the other.
When they do this all the time in any subject, it makes having a meaningful conversation virtually impossible.
Shall we also start saying 2+2 = 5 instead of 4?

Bottom line is, it wouldn't hurt Trek to be more accurate and stop being all over the place.

That's false equivalence. You still don't seem to understand how people use such terms in everyday talk, even in professional environment including academia and the scientific community as long as it's not in publications, or in more formal speeches and lectures. Most people would get the gist of it.

This is where you come off as a pedantic snob.

I don't complain when people post pictures of gorillas or chimps for Jayson, as if they were implying those were monkeys instead of apes. I've seen biology professionals do that, not because they don't understand the meanings, but under the assumption that most of us would get the gist of what they are talking about... It happens all the time. It's part of how wonderful and dynamic the languages are....

I think your general point that the writers should pay more attention to the details of the story is valid. There have been quite a few examples of lazy writing this season which I found frustrating. However, in your specific example, they may be leaving the exact blast radius of the burn intentionally ambiguous so they don't handcuff themselves for future storytelling, since that detail wasn't relevant to the S3 plot.

I was thinking about this. I work in a field were use of highly technical language is saved for publications and research. Even in my conversations with doctors of my field there is still an informality of language. I think that expecting professionals to be super precise and professional with their language at all times is missing out on the human aspect of these interactions.

But, I also thought I sucked at writing Master's level research papers and still got As so what do I know?

I'm still disappointed that it wasn't the Romulans. Or at least the Klingons. Has anybody even seen a Klingon recently?

You would have thought that since the Klingons had or still have a special interest in the Discovery and the Red Angel because of the Klingon Time crystal that was used in the Red Angel project, that Burnham along with Vance would be critically concerned about the Klingons in the 32nd century.

Yeah, after the mishandling of them in DSC I'm in no rush to see more of them in Kurtzman/CBS All Access Trek unless it's Worf. Or animated ones in LD.
