Summon the Thunder (Spoilers)

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I'd say the affair, but there's a very good chance that I'm wrong.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Thanks David. I will be waiting for that answer, and see how the last book turns out.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

^ Reap the Whirlwind is not intended to be the "last" book in the Vanguard saga. Potential future arcs in the saga have been discussed at length, and RTW is being written to set up some of those new directions. As long as readers keep buying the Vanguard books, the series has the potential to continue for a considerable length of time.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

^Excellent! I've read both Vanguard books and enjoyed them both very much. Looking forward to the next installment.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Any chance of them coming out a bit more often? Once a year kind of makes me forget some of the details and in a series like this details are important to unraveling the plot.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

^ Unfortunately, no -- once a year is about as frequent as they're likely to get for the time being. And just to save Marco or someone else the trouble of pointing this out, a series that has a new book every year is fairly rare in SF and fantasy. Fans of original literary SF&F series often wait a few years between installments but manage to keep up. So cheer up -- it could be worse... :)

Oh, I know! I'm a fan of George R. R. Martin and he took six years between a novel (although that was a solo incident due to him having to restart the book).

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Not to be snotty or anything, but you could just do what I do and reread the book(s) leading up to the new one.

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I have to say that I enjoyed Harbinger more than I enjoyed Summon the Thunder ; but that was because the cutaways to the Romulans and the Klingons in StT just didn't work for me like they have with some people, that being said, all the action concerning the characters on the station I did enjoy very much - the secret lab, the twist with the post mortem, the twist with Anna and T'Prynn we all enjoyable.

The scenes with the Lovell and the ancient outpost were probably my favourite parts of the book - with the alien menace being pretty creepy and cool. I know how some have said they envisaged it, but I was kinda picturing an obsidian skinned version of the crystal aliens from Titan AE when picturing the avatars.

And the aliens on the Klingon world, totally the creatures from Earth 2.

One thing troubled me, and I can't find it in my copy of Vanguard, but there was something about Zett that seemed to have changed - (it's been a bit since I read the novel) - and I think it was his teeth, I believe they were white here when they'd previously been black?

EDIT: Cos I'd said Vanguard when I meant Harbinger as pointed out by the poster below.

I'm sorry to nitpick, but Vanguard is the series title, and Harbinger is the name of the first book in the series.

There was time for his once-a-decade dentist appointment between the books. ;)

Re: Summon the Thunder (Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

This so far is a great series. It's going to be hard to wait another year for the third book.

Think that's hard? Try writing it between the Fourth of July and Halloween. :)

Normally, I'd recommend that but it backfired on me. I re-reaad Harbinger right before Summon the Thunder so STT endted up being a lot of repitition. Might be best to not re-read and let the authors refresh your memory.

That's not hard. Writing it between Fourth of July and Bastille Day -- that's hard....

:D

I was dying while waiting for the new Vulcan books by Sherman and Shwartz to come out.

It's nice to see Epiphany within that one year range (tentatively, of course)

Any new Shwartz-Trek being considered following Epipahny ? I really enjoy her original SF and am curious what she would do Trek-wise alone. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes considering the traditional collaboration between Sherman and Shwartz, and this is in no way any statement regarding the writing of Jo Sherman. It's just that I really dig Susan's work.

How did you write it so quickly?
Haven't yet. Still working on it. I'm about 87,000 words in, and I have only 54 days left to work through another 47 plot points...without a doubt, this will be the longest book I have written to date.

Try writing anything while holding down a full-time job that routinely involves 10- and 12-hour workdays, plus a two-hour round-trip commute. If I didn't have this silly ol' full-time job, I might have finished the frakkin' thing by now... of course, I would also have no money, no insurance, and no way to support my wife through grad school, so there would be other stressors in play. ;)

Really? Could you give a hypothetical page count?
