Really in my opinion the Enterprise D looked the most like it was designed in-universe for long time habitation.

No, but I don't have wrought iron bulkheads for walls either. If I did, yeah, I might soften & deaden that space some, with some fabric, or rugs or carpeting, or better yet, tapestry.Do you have carpet on your walls?
