Humans had heard of Ferengi. They'd just never knowingly encounter a live one until TNG S1 The Last Outpost.

Rember in the TNG Pilot, Picard said to Graper Zorn RE: The Ferengi - "Let's hope they find you as tasty as their last customers..."

We're talking 200 years before that, though. No clue who these big-eared, money-obsessed space pirates are, but the Menk know. And the Menk barely knew about anything.

Its on the dvds as an extra. We never ever saw a counselor on Star Trek. So they didnt have a counselor. But im theorizing the time change to khans birth may have created this issue like all the others. The romulans basically caused s schism in the timeline by messing with it too much. A sepsration if you will. So in this reality counselors were assigned to ships much earlier.

Based on this logic they never had toilets.
