It looks very much like this "Sam Kirk" really is George Samuel Kirk, Jr.

Which is as far as I've gotten as of 17:05 PDT, April 1st, 2023. So as of right now, all I have on Sam Kirk being George Samuel Kirk, Jr., is a "walks like a duck, quacks like a duck . . ." assumption.
