I liked it. A lot. Has a lot of TOS/TAS/TNG feel to it.
It looks very much like this "Sam Kirk" really is George Samuel Kirk, Jr.
Of course he is.

Oh, is that all?Really? All we know as of this episode is that he has the same name and profession as James T. Kirk's older brother.
He even has the moustache.
TOS itself contradicted that.James Kirk obviously thought he was the only one that called him “Sam”.

Which is as far as I've gotten as of 17:05 PDT, April 1st, 2023. So as of right now, all I have on Sam Kirk being George Samuel Kirk, Jr., is a "walks like a duck, quacks like a duck . . ." assumption.for this specific episode.
It's the same universe as TOS.It’s DiscoVerse Sam. Just go with that.
Other than McCoyHe is. James Kirk obviously thought he was the only one that called him “Sam”.
Oh, and Sam's wifeMCCOY: Jim, your brother Sam and his family, aren't they stationed on this planet?
AURELAN: Jim? Sam, he's
Yeah, that's usually how it works/McCoy only called him Sam because Kirk called him that.
And Aurelan?I just mean if McCoy knew him, he would probably call him George
She probably knew James called him Sam and said it to relate to him. She probably calls him “babe” face to face. And Aurelan?
