Well yeah, it was an overt tribute to TUC.Sound familiar, like something out of a old movie.
Heck, I'll pile on. I wish they had done away with the entire Xindi War thing and replaced it with the Romulan War. They could have done exactly the same plot line with the post 9-11 subtext and had the badges be the Romulans. It would have even been more meaningful because the moral of the story would have been that xenophobia was the wrong path and cooperation with the Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites was the only way to have long term stability and peace instead of "cowboy Human ship goes into the Expanse alone and saves the universe on his own".
really upset the enterprise arc made up whole new storyline nemesisrather than going into a longer better arc in war with the klingons or the war with romulans especially since war with the klingons and romulans prevail through out both universes and effect the characters of so many of the different series but its the same thing with the tng tosha yar daughter story arcI think The Crossing (the one with body-swapping wraiths) would also fall into this category.
I would have liked to see the establishment of diplomatic relations with the occupants of the Expanse. A sort of Marshall Plan in space.
After what we saw in Detained, I was hoping the Suliban diaspora would be explored further. And would the enhanced Suliban degrade after they had lost contact with Future Guy?
Also, the Romulan war. The fact that they're not supposed to meet face-to-face sets up intriguing possibilities for long-range weapons, guerilla attacks and even terrorism.
Pretty sure that wasn't the message. The villains weren't religious terrorists, so the analogy doesn't stand up.Yeah, but I don't think the metaphor they should have gone for in 2004 was "Some of Al Qaeda Is Good".
i think part of the reason to choose him nis his dislike of vulcans : only commander perry could go to japan only nixon could go to china : i dont think he comes across as dim but nieve and ambitous :it was a huge effort to get into space exploration and archer felt that the vulcans had stolen seeing the enterprise from his father : i love captain archers character arch he is one of the best characters written in any of the seriesI know he wasn't a diplomat, he was an astronaut. Still, you would think since his prime mission was making first contact they would have picked someone with leadership skills who didn't act like a bumbling tourist rubbing up against the natives.
It's not like he had any other skills other than ship captaincy, when did he ever save the day through science or engineering or helmsmanship or.. he saved it by accident with his mouth, after removing his foot, and as the seasons went on he got better and saved it by design. Or being a bully when it was needed.
While a definite arc of Archer Learns to Diplomacy I think they made a mistake making him so stupid in the start. It's just a bit unbelievable that they didn't pick someone renown for their dealings with Vulcans, someone who wasn't "whaaaaaaaaaaaat?" when confronted with a Klingon on earth.
You could find someone today who could do this job, be a diplomat and command a starship. Though really they painted a lot of them pretty stupid in Broken Bow, all the peeps yelling at Soval (or maybe that was just Archer). Maybe the culture in the military and on earth was kind of dim.
Yes, unlike Saavik (whose half-Romulan status is of course non-canonical), T'Pol being 'mixed' would be relevant to the plot and might bring out interesting ideas, e.g. I imagine Vulcans would have to deal with increased anti-pointy ear prejudice, and, perhaps more interestingly, Vulcan society might suffer internal schisms as various individuals and institutions are suspected of being tainted by Romulan influence.Showing the Romulan War would've been cool. The idea that T'Pol was half-Romulan is something I've always found interesting.
He was briefly mentioned in season 4's "Home":
T'POL: A Starfleet posting is no less important than one with the High Command. I'm sure Father would have approved.
T'LES: Your father believed that our work should enrich Vulcan society.
