Stories You Would have Enjoyed Seeing

Obviously the Romulan War and the lead-up to the founding of the UFP, but the show had already been moving in that direction anyway.

I wanted to see more of Travis! To me, he always had the most interesting backstory, having grown up in space and all. He was so incredibly under-utilised. I remember being really upset during 'Twilight' when
he got killed and nobody even bothered to mention it!

I also thought it would have been nice to at least have a b-story or something about what happened to Crewman Cutler. It still makes me sad that Kellie Waymire died so young, and I really loved her character. In my headcanon, I always imagine that Cutler was one of the crew who didn't make it back from the Expanse, which would explain in-universe why we never saw her again. (She was mentioned in 'Raijin', but of course Waymire had died by then.)

Crewmen Cutler is alive and well in the Enterprise books .She's a science officer on T'Pol's starship the Endeavour.

II know everyone enjoys speculation threads.

I read somewhere that the writing team had ideas regarding what they wanted to do if Enterprise entered a fifth season. Manny Coto and crew did a great job with season 4 so it would have been interesting to see what they would have done. I for one would have liked a little more backstory on Dr. Phlox, and I think they could have explored Malcomb's background a bit more. I heard they wanted to bring the Andoreans and other species closer together to begin forging the Federation. What would you like them to have done?

4 words: Itty Bitty Baby Sarek.

Shit! I just had the idea, that if we ever had gotten a true Enterprise finale, it should have been a two-parter and called "Kubayashi Maru". Everyone would have been excited, will they survive? Then have it be a two-parter about klingons, where a klingon fraction wants to start war with the Earth-alliance. Everything leading up to a confrontation in the neutral zone. Archer manages to deescalate. Defeat the badguy, while keeping peace with the klingon homeworld. The ships of the klingon traiters withdraw into the neutral zone. The day is saved.

And then: an emergency call. From a ship in the neutral zone. That is attacked by those klingon rebels. And Archer has to decide.

He goes in. The Enterprise starts a glorious battle against the klingon fleet. The cargo is lost, but the Kubayashi Maru can flee. But then, the Enterprise goes down. Guns blazing. In an epic, but unwinnable fight. Honorable, impressing even the (friendly) klingons. But being completely destroyed nevertheless.

Only to have the last reveal: Archer knew that fight would be lost. So he evacuated his crew before. Went into the fight only with the bridge crew. And beamed over to the Kubayashi Maru when she was able to flee, letting the Enterprise go down while on autopilot. Loosing the battle. Loosing the Enterprise. Loosint the Kubayashi Maru's cargo. But saving everyone's live.

Have that be the reason why the series ends. The heroes survive, but the ship is lost. And without the ship, no more Enterprise. Have them all reassigned to new ships, new jobs, or going on with their live. But as heroes. Give Archer a medal for his achievement for facing a no-win scenario. And have Admiral Forrest remark "no Starfleet captain should ever face an unwinnable scenario like this again, ever".

That would have been a finale!

Trek Babies!

(A play on Muppet Babies, for those not in the know.)
Swell. As a child of the 80's, now I'll have that theme tune in my head the whole day.

Now that, I would pay good money to see!

Stories I would have liked seeing, eh? Well, obviously the Romulan war, but before that I would have liked a season or two with stories much like we saw in season four. For example:
  • A visit to the planet of dragons talked about in Bound (iirc)
  • Establishing the first starbase
  • Going back to what was the Expanse and see what happened to the Xindi
  • Helping the Boomers to fight (Orion) pirates
  • A follow-up to what happened on Vulcan after T'Pau and the Syrranites took over
  • Seeing the workings and conflicts (struggle for self-determination?) on an Earth colony in, say, Alpha Centauri
  • A visit to Cloud City, that Manny Coto thought about
  • Likewise, a story with the Kzin that Coto also planned
  • Conflicts within the Coalition of Planets, Andorians, Tellarites, Rigellians etc.
  • Outposts and colonies suffering attacks from an unknown foe (turned out to be Romulans)
  • Trip and T'Pol exploring their bond
  • Shran getting a new Andorian ship after doing some heroics that impresses the Imperial Guard (I think having him on the NX-01 would be too much)
  • Launching of new NX-ships - Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour, maybe even some Daedalus-class vessels

All these are great ideas! Yet, my brain is getting easily confused, since some of these are addressed in relaunch novels. And since the novels are part of my personal head canon, I have to pause to think "what was actually shown onscreen?"

^ I haven't really read the relaunch novels. While I appreciate that they kept Trip alive, I'm not too fond of the idea that they kept it secret and all that. I would have preferred to just have TATV excised and Trip and T'Pol kept their relationship while both still serving on the NX-01.

Heck, I'll pile on. I wish they had done away with the entire Xindi War thing and replaced it with the Romulan War. They could have done exactly the same plot line with the post 9-11 subtext and had the badges be the Romulans. It would have even been more meaningful because the moral of the story would have been that xenophobia was the wrong path and cooperation with the Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites was the only way to have long term stability and peace instead of "cowboy Human ship goes into the Expanse alone and saves the universe on his own".

I loved the Vulcan and Andorian episodes and I wish they had Tellarite episodes. I also would have liked to see a pre-Federation "Coalition" era hammering out the doctrines like Prime Directive in real time. It would be cool if the Coalition was fragile and Archer had to hold it together as a recurring plot arc.

I'd have ended the series with Enterprise getting the distress signal from Wrath of Khan, and flying off to help. Fade out. Every Trekkie knows what's gonna happen and fans would debate specifics forever.

I think this is a fantastic idea for a finale. The only thing I might change is just letting the bridge crew go down with the ship. A true no-win scenario, where they sacrifice themselves for others. It would probably not go over well with a lot of people (killing the heroes!?!?) but I think it would be satisfying. It would leave an indelible mark on the franchise and tie ENT to a beloved and memorable concept. I mean, I'd take it your way too. Really, great idea.

What I wanted to see was happened during the leadup to the Romulan war. That's what I wanted to see. The story about the station and Guinan's appearance would've been interesting.A follow up to the Vulcan syranite storyline with T'Pau is something I wanted to see some that storyline was features in the Enterprise Romulan war and Relaunch novels.

Yeah, I wouldn't kill all the heroes. You're right it might have been better for a truly no-win Kubayashi Maru scenario.. But it wouldn't fit with the rest of the series. Blackadder usually kills it's heroes at the end. But the "death" of main characters is constantly inferred to there. I wouldn't mind a WWII show end with the main characters dying. But Enterprise, at it's core, was a television show about explorers going exploring. Even in their third season. Have them all die in the finale would be antithetical to the rest of the show.

I think if any of the Trek shows had an allowence to off a larger part of their cast at the end it would be DS9 - to finally pay a personal prize after all war and devastation they had gone through unscarred. Enterprise on the other hand was a more upbeat show. I thought even the one(!) death in the finale was too much. Not because it was handeled bad (it was), but because Enterprise just wasn't that type of show.

There is an episode of ENT where they do rescue a KM type freighter full of refugees from Klingon space and the Klingons show up. Archer is captured and put on trial and sent to the ice planet to mine dilithium before eventually being rescued.
