STD: Only Marginally Better than The Final Frontier

Where are the spoilers?

Also, I love The Final Frontier...

Discovery is trash so far but it could improve like TNG did. With less episodes per season it really should've come out of the gate swinging but sadly it didn't. Oh well. If it fails I'm sure there will be another spin off or reboot somewhere down the line. Star Trek will never die and the previous shows and movies aren't going to be erased from existence.

Hi!!! I'm Crazy Minh, and I'm new here. I'm also a 20-odd year Trek fan who despises the new incarnation of Star Trek.
And I'm a Star Trek fan for 49 years (started watching 'Star Trek first run on NBC in 1969 at age 6, first episode I saw: TOS - "Elaan of Troyius" ), and I have enjoyed it so far much better then the awful retcon that was TNG in 1987. (You see when you've seen all the incarnations first run, you can better tell just what is what. ;))
Personally for me its:

1) TOS (the original and everything after is a pale imatation)
2) ENT (Yes, I liked it because I like my people 'better', not 'perfect utopians' ala TNG)
3) ST: D
4) TAS (aka 'The Animated Series' that ran from 1973-1975 on NBC Saturday mornings in the days kids had cartoons).
5) ST: DS9
6) ST:TNG

Bottom of the Barrel) - ST:VOY

What do I win? ;)

Hey, I've said stuff about it before...just not here. I didn't know this site existed unitl about a week ago.
Wow, for a newbie you really came out of the gate swinging.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, and you express yourself reasonable well (if very forcefully). It's just that most of your post touches on subjects that most of us around here have been discussing at length over the last several months, so there's a certain amount of outrage fatigue that sets in.

FWIW, to sum a lot of things up, I agree that STV:TFF is execrably bad, and I'm astonished that it has actual fans popping their heads up here. I don't think DSC is that bad, although it certainly has some serious writing problems. My personal sense of things is that it started badly, improved pretty steadily until the midseason break, then slipped downhill again afterward and ended just as badly as it began (if not worse). I also have serious reservations about the so-called "visual reboot," especially where the Klingons are concerned. All that said, taken as a whole I think it was probably the best first season of any Trek spinoff series (yes, I know that's damning with very faint praise), and it has some talented cast members, so there's potential there that (we can only hope) might be realized down the line.

I was finally able to gain access of CBS Access and start watching "STAR TREK DISCOVERY". So far, I've been enjoying it. A lot more than I thought I would. I don't think it's perfect. Then again, I don't think any Trek show is perfect.

By the way, I think DIS is twenty to thirty times better than "Final Frontier".

When will Season One of this series be released on DVD?

I like Final Frontier more.

At least it spawned a meme.

What does God need with a Starship? How else is He going to transport people to Heaven or Hell? Or to a New Realm or, if they're reincarnated, to a New Mortal Life?

If the Starship breaks down, they're in Limbo. Or Purgatory if they hit some sort of anomoly.

When will Season One of this series be released on DVD?

Netflix's Daredevil was released on DVD about a year after the series aired on netflix, at least here in Australia. So if Discovery does get a DVD release it may still be a while off.

the show justified it's own existence in the timeline, something prequels are meant to do if they want to be successful.
At what point did it do this? ENT had 90something episodes across four seasons. DSC has had 15 episodes.
Also, I stopped watching after ep 3. The spore drive finished it for me. I HAVE kept up with it via spoilers...because I can't be bothered to watch the rest of the dumpster fire.
Oh wait never mind you only watched 3 episodes. Did you watch all of ENT or were you going on spoilers there, too?

Overall I agree about TFF. There are some nice bits in it - I like the campfire stuff and the jailbreak bit but not much else. And every time the sun comes out i think “sulu look, the sun’s come out... it’s a miracle...” (I’m in the UK so it generally is a miracle when the sun comes out - also I say it to myself in chekov’s accent...).

But I love the fan theory that TFF was all Kirk’s dream...

I also have serious reservations about the so-called "visual reboot,"
And as there’s precedent for TFF being a dream, I’ve suggested before that DSC is Burnham’s dream - she is knocked out in “Vulcan hello” and we never actually see her wake up - the scene skips elsewhere and we then see her in the sickbay scanner. I think Burnham is in a coma and DSC is all in her head like “life on mars”. Perfectly explains the visual reboot... *laughs maniacally*

I want flashbacks of the Mirror Universe with Lorca, Georgiou, and Burnham together, like a make-shift family, feasting on delicious, barbecued Kelpian. With Georgiou having the deadly smile of a Black Widow Spider and Lorca drinking a beer while they're about to make love. All with their shades on. Because they can't stand the bright light.

Flash-forward to the Present. Lorca gets out of the shower. And then says what a horrible dream he had about getting incinerated. Georgiou tells him it's okay. As she really bruises the garlic hard and slices up the zucchini to go with their as yet unprepared dish. She'll kill him later. Lorca smiles. "I'd like to see you try." Then Georgiou gets an extra-wide grin, accepting that as a challenge, as she sharpens up another knife, looking at Lorca who looks extra tasty.

Cut to Tyler taking a double-piss. Then Burnham talks about how he tried to kill her. Tyler asks her what she's getting at, and then she tells him Lorca always warned her about who she gets in bed with. He knew from experience but now she knows what type of experience he meant.

I have too much time on my hands. Or I'm just up too late. I'm gonna write a Trashy Discovery Romance Novel.
