STC: To Boldly Indiegogo

The unfortunate thing for STC and other fan productions is that the press coverage of the Axanar suit has been really shallow. It details the allegations in the complaint, but it doesn't go into the motivation behind the lawsuit.

Axanar of course was sued not because it violated the law, but because it violated the unwritten rules by profiteering off the intellectual property. CBS/P can't admit that publicly because it would look like a waiver of their IP rights, but a little investigative journalism would delve into that side of things instead of passively sensationalizing the potential peril to all fan films.

Of course this whole thing is only a tiny drop in the ocean of real news, so that depth of coverage is probably too much to ask. But it certainly shows how one rotten egg can stink up the whole henhouse.

My wish was granted - more coins. I just donated for a Lolani coin. They have 100 coins each for Lolani and Fairest and they probably won't last long. (Wish they still had the Pilgrim coins - Apollo is just fitting for a coin).

Glad to see them roll out some new perks and give the fund drive a needed "kick" to pick up more donations.

I was planning on donating at that level, perks or no perks, but I thought the coin would be kind of cool, so I moved up my schedule.

The new perks seemed to have generated a small surge. Here's hoping it keeps up.

I wish I knew how to put video clips together to make about a two minute promo video overplayed with some TOS music to highlight scenes from the five existing STC episodes. I think it could make a nice promo to host on their Indiegogo page as well as STC's home website as well as on YouTube. Creating an audio track I can do.

It wouldn't be much different from a feature film promo trailer only it would be for the whole series rather than one film.

They have pretty nice trailer in their current promo video which features scenes /music from all the episodes, but for some odd reason it's 2 minutes into the video. It should either be up front or standalone. A very strange decision.

I agree. I would also move the nice write up they have from one of the walk on roles to the top. Selling a few of those would definitely put the fund drive into high gear.

They seem to have listened to you. There's now a separate "Teaser Reel" posted on the page.

There's also a poll going on (on their Facebook "To Boldly Indiegogo" event page) about what additional perks would interest people.

Posters, T-shirts.

Well they are making an effort with more perks and they are getting into more podcasts and more videos to try to juice interest.

It seems to be having an effect. There's been something of a small surge the past few days and they are finally over $90,000.

They still have quite a ways to go yet.

Still 1500 backers short from the last Kickstarter. I hope those people come back in the last 30 days. That alone would probably put this close to the goal.

Per comments on Indiegogo, they are planning to extend the campaign until the end of May or the first weekend in June. That's more realistic, at the rate it's going, than letting it end May 4.

That is a great idea! Where have I heard that b4? Oh yeah from me Seriously it should have been that way to tie into the release of EP6 all along to generate maximum fan exposure.

This is the first campaign for serious cash post Axanar. I think everyone has something to learn here.
I'm hoping the Axamess can get resolved quickly (as if!) because once the dust settles and other fan films are still standing, the casual contributors will have a better understanding of the landscape.
