No offense, but these responses sound like someone who really doesn’t know what he’s talking about. So unless you’d like to be way more specific, that’s how I’m going to take them.

Humans like comfortable. Starfleet keeps going back to the same colors and uniform styles again and again. They don't change that much, and rely on old ship designs for years, and decades. They love their history and rely on it even in new designs.

Like current humans.

Bill is calling the TMP era USS Titan a Shangri-La II-Class, so it might have some differences from the original he did.

I think it's a Reliant.

Starfleet officers are shown often having a love of exploring the past. Starfleet changes little and once the Dominon War is dine they go to a slightly different variation of the Voyager style uniform. Starfleet feels very nostalgic.

And again, it’s nostalgic because that’s what the audience wants. That’s why SNW looks so much more like TOS than DSC season 1 did. Because DSC season 1 looked so different from ‘nostalgic’ Trek that people didn’t like it. If people loved it, new Trek would look nothing like it did before.

You’re completely missing the point. Starfleet doesn’t care about nostalgia. The people who create this fictional world do, as do the people who watch it. Starfleet is just a fictional organization.

I think monster impulse engines aside the Titan looks cool. Not a fan of calling it a “Neo-Constitution” Class though.

No, not really. I'm looking at it from both points of view, both the Watsonian and the Doylist. With regards to the audience point of view, the people creating the world wouldn't keep repeating if it wasn't selling. Which it is...a lot.

But, from an in universe perspective Starfleet holds on to things and relies upon history in it's designs. The Excelsior was a space frame used by Starfleet for decades. Same with the styling of the monster maroon, and technically that carries through in the TNG command color. Starfleet also repeatedly keeps the status quo as much as possible, shelving technology until proven reliable.

Again, narrative convenience for real world production explanations but I'm not just going to separate just because it's convenient.

Just the nacelles. The saucer is a unique design based on other fed ships of the same era, the secondary hull is completely original, the impulse deck and the bridge dome are also all original.

The saucer seen from the front looks exactly like the one in TMP-TUC

Honestly .. Excellsior class 2, reliant class, now Constitution class neo.
Nebula, shepard, galaxy Sequels..
There's nostalgia then theres just being lazy .. Do your own thing.. Think of something new.

Starfleet are going through their 90's Disney sequelmania phase. Remember such all-time classics as Fantasia 2, The Little Mermaid 2 and the rest? That's the neo-Connie.

I know here on the forum a lot of people know about the novelverse and the TItan design by Sean. However, most of the Star Trek fans I know in real life, never heard of it. They follow the shows and movies and love them, but the only thing they about the Titan are the two lines mentioning it in Nemesis.

For the biggest majority of Star Trek fans, there isn't a real nostalgia thing with the Titan, I think.

There could be a kind of symmetry here. Picard reconnected with his past on the new Stargazer last season and now Riker reconnects with his on the new Titan.
