Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Uh.. The original was ... Literally.. A kitbash of a refit Connie
Just the nacelles. The saucer is a unique design based on other fed ships of the same era, the secondary hull is completely original, the impulse deck and the bridge dome are also all original.

I don’t have a problem with the design of the ship, other than the elephant in the room about it fitting better as a TMP-era ship rather than a PIC-era ship.

Now if the Starfleet of 2400 has decided that all new ships need to look like ships from 120 years ago, fine. It wouldn’t be the first time they made illogical design choices.

One can easily conjecture that the Akira-class design of the 2370s and later decades was a nostalgic throwback to the NX-class starships of the pre-Federation era of Starfleet history. Someone in Starfleet R&D around the time of TNG was a big fan of the lines of ships like Jonathan Archer's Enterprise and wanted to do a "modern," 24th century spin on them.

Honestly .. Excellsior class 2, reliant class, now Constitution class neo.
Nebula, shepard, galaxy Sequels..
There's nostalgia then theres just being lazy .. Do your own thing.. Think of something new.

Some people are saying that the Luna class titan was 20 years old.. Too old..
But the tos enterprise was 20 years old by Kirk time and still it's prime. Almost 30 by refit time.
It was just about ready for its 25 year major refit.

Not a fan of the Neo-Constitution class, every part looks like it comes from a different era of starship design so it doesn't look like a cohesive design to me.

But anyway, in the Spacedock shot I think there is a Sovereign class up top...

... and a California class down bottom right?

There's a Gagarin class,
Sovereign, mayb calli. Maybe inquiry
A Sutherland in the dock. And a Stargazzer type when it warps out

And Still no Vesta class.. Boo
