Stargate series

I have watched so far all of the episodes of Stargate Universe and I really like the show. I have never before watched any Stargate series or even the movie from which they followed. Should I watch the Movie then watch SG1 and then Atlantis? Do you think I will like all of the above as I hear the other 2 series are almost camp in nature (read that online somewhere, find it hard to believe ). Is there any other Stargate series I am missing besides SG1 and Atlantis? Thanks a lot.

SG1 never took itself quite as seriously as Universe seems to, but I wouldn't call it "camp". It simply knew how to poke fun at itself.

Atlantis may have been heading that way towards the end.

Technically there's an animated series called Stargate Infinity, but most people ignore it. From what I've heard it's a really bad kids' show.

Infinity isn't a bad kids cartoon, it's just bad Stargate like the later season of SG-1 and most of Atlantis.

SG-1's prime is the last few episodes of season 1 to the end of season 6. Universe is more like DS9 and SG-1 is more like TNG.

Watch the movie first.

It's not quite the same universe as SG-1 in some of the detail, but it's still a great movie and provides crucial background you'll want to know about for the series, especially the first couple of episodes, crucially O'Neill's, Jackson's and Kawalsky's backstories, background on the Stargate and how it works and what it does, and characters on Abydos (I hope I'm not giving too much away by indicating they go through the gate to another planet in the Movie ;)) we'll re-encounter later on in the series.

Then watch the rest of SG-1.
I miss the Goa'uld!

I wouldn't say that DS9 was a radical departure from TNG. Both shows had the same production style and overall tone. When it comes to the difference between SG-1 and SGU, I don't think there is a Trek equivalent.

SG-1 never took itself all that seriously, but it didn't degenerate into camp until around the seventh season. Seasons 1 through 6 are generally pretty good.

Atlantis is definitely camp, beginning, end, and everything in between. Might as well just skip it.

I don't think either SG1 or Atlantis were camp shows, if anything Atlantis was a darker show than SG1. Seethe movie first then SG1, then Atlantis.

If you're in the United States, the first seven seasons of Stargate are on Hulu until the middle of May.

Except that DS9 is terrific and SG:U sucks. :rommie:

If you like SG:U, you should love everything else with the Stargate brand, regardless of how bad it is. Have fun! :bolian:

If you like SG-U there is a decent chance you may not like SG-1 or Atlantis. Thats not to say that SG-1 is a bad show, but it has a very different feel to it than SG-U. As a matter of fact, while watching the recent episode of SG-U i found myself missing alot of the things that I loved about SG-1. Atlantis was pure crap though, you can ignore that one.

What would you know about SGU? if I recall didn't you not even finish watching the 1st episode imagine if you did that with DS9.

^ Nothing so mundane will stop Temis bashing something Stargate related.
But you're right. I wonder if the first 20 minutes or so of Emissary would really have her saying 'DS9 is terrific'.

You are worst than me!

And to be fair the first few seasons of DS9 weren't the greatest either. :p

True that! The folks old enough to remember the cover of the SF Universe season review issue., well lets say the reaction was not positive. Four episodes into DS9 we were wishing Hawk would shave his head.

I think so. It's a terrific pilot. Now, the rest of the season, now there's a question.
Were Duet along with In the Hands of the Prophet good enough to save the season:confused:. Yes:bolian:

Oh, there are a few great episodes that year. And plenty of good ones. But, as a whole, it's not terrific. DS9 took some time before it reached that level.

Watch the movie, then watch the first 3-4 seasons of SG-1 at least, you may like it, watch more from there if you want, but it does start to go downhill at some point

I always felt season six was the low point of the show, you have Jonas instead of Daniel, RDA is starting to phone it in and lose interest but hasnt made it as overt as he did in 7 and 8 yet, just a general mehness for me.

And personally, as good as the early to middle seasons are, the best season by far for me is season 10.
