Starfleet Academy & Robert Picardo: I have a theory...

mean, this is someone he'd been very close to and even in a relationship with, they're serving together on the USS Enterprise of all ships, and now she's getting married, or so they thought. Anyone in his position would be upset. I don't expect this level of maturity from a cadet show.
Pouting is not mature.
Picard is a stiff, and Riker knew he's like the one person on the ship (besides Dr. Crusher) who could get away with that kind pf prank. It especially sells, because we don't see this kind of humor very often, so when it does happen, it's funny.
It's not funny.
Data i meant.
Romance between seasoned adults, I'm fine with. Romance between cadets: :ack:
Romance in Trek sucks.

Cadets are going to be adults. Most college students are adults. This bias against college students is bizarre.

Romance in Trek equals gross to me, cadets adults or not.

Pouting is not mature.
He didn't pout. WTF? :cardie:
It's not funny.
Yes, it is.
Data i meant.
Thank you, but I still don't know the episode.
Romance in Trek sucks.
Why? I loved the Milles-Keiko O'Brien stuff on TNG and DS9, Worf and Jadzia, Odo and Kira. Over on Voyager, there was Neelix & Kes, Tom and B'Elanna, Tuvok struggling with his wife back home on Vulcan, Chakotay and Seven last minute. Why does Romance in Trek suck?

College students are usually 18 to 25 about, Starfleet Cadets will also likely be in this age demographic. I'm not biased against college students; you're objecting against a claim I never made. I don't mind a teen drama or college-age drama if it's good, I just don't want Star Trek to go that route. Is that so bizare?
Romance in Trek equals gross to me, cadets adults or not.
Why? Most people stop thinking romance is gross with they turn 13.

Thank you, but I still don't know the episode.

Why does Romance in Trek suck?
Because it's rarely deep. It's cheap, surface level drama. Yes, that's typical of most TV shows but I'm not interested in it.
He didn't pout. WTF? :cardie:
Excuse me, sulked would be a better word. His supposedly evolved sensibility was to go to the holodeck until Deanna reassured him.
Yes, it is.
Subjective.
Thank you, but I still don't know the episode

The assumption that it must be this way because it features 18 to 25 years old adults is bizarre to me.

In real life I love romance. In TV, less so, but it depends. In Star Trek just no thank you, with limited exceptions.

What are you expecting?
Excuse me, sulked would be a better word. His supposedly evolved sensibility was to go to the holodeck until Deanna reassured him.
He's a man, not a f***ing robot. What are you expecting?
Subjective.
Have you never had a good laugh at the expense of a super-serious friend or coworker?

It's because TV producers/writers don't know how to write for this age group without going the college frat bro route.

They're people, not robots, and they're on deep space missions. Romance is going to happen, and it'd be weird and disturbing if it didn't.

What are you expecting
More depth.

Sulking is not mature. I expect decorum.
Have you never had a good laugh at the expense of a super-serious friend or coworker?
No.

I don't need to watch it and would rather not. That's my preference.

Fights, conflict, resolution, caring and commitment.
Again, he's not a robot, the "love of his life" is getting married. He's going to sulk. It would be weird if he didn't.
He's supposed to be evolved per the text of the show.
Oh. I'm sorry. :sigh:
Having been the butt of jokes for years I prefer not to laugh at other coworkers expense.
each their own, I think Star Trek is far richer when characters pair off.
Enjoy.

Fights, conflict, resolution, caring and commitment.
We got plenty of that on DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise.
He's supposed to be evolved per the text of the show.
What do you mean, per the "text" of the show?
Having been the butt of jokes for years I prefer not to laugh at other coworkers expense.
Being the butt of a joke is part of friendship. Friends make fun of me, I make fun of them, we all make fun of each other, and it can escalate to "better run real fast." LMAO
Thank you!

Not well for the most part. Not enough for me to want more.
What do you mean, per the "text" of the show?
TNG describes humanity as evolved and a more mature species then those ugly 20th century humans..
Being the butt of a joke is part of friendship.
Coworkers are not friends and not what I expect in a work place. And you don't know my experiences not the pain they've dealt with from being a butt of a joke so I'm good without it. Thank you.

Not to the point of being stripped of emotion like Vulcans.
Coworkers are not friends and not what I expect in a work place.
Coworkers may or may not be friends, it honestly just depends on where you work.
And you don't know my experiences not the pain they've dealt with from being a butt of a joke so I'm good without it. Thank you.
I've been through the same, I learned to laugh.

Sulking is still not mature so I'd expect something better.

Sure but it's not a given.

I've been through the same, I learned to laugh.
Being mocked is not something I laugh off. A joke should be shared not pain.

Sulking is still not mature so I'd expect something better.
Then what do you expect?
Sure but it's not a given.
I did not say it was.
Being mocked is not something I laugh off. A joke should be shared not pain.
Not what I'm talking about. Have you honestly never had friends that you teased and who teased you in return? That is what Riker did with Picard and that dumb sex statue that Picard thought would make people go away. Riker knows Picard is a stiff, that's why he did it.

Taking advantage of someone's ignorance is stupid and mean spirted. That's not teasing; that's mocking.

Then what do you expect?
Oh, let's see-honesty, realizing that she might have another relationship after they separated, accepting it. Being, what' the word? Mature, especially for a supposedly mature Starfleet officer, a commander, and not a cadet fresh out of the Academy.

Taking advantage of someone's ignorance is stupid and mean spirted. That's not teasing; that's mocking.
No, it's not. Do you genuinely not understand this? Take a step back from emotion and look at this objectively.

This is extremely robotic and just NOT how emotion works. Riker's a man, he likely still has latent feelings for Troi on some level, maybe even subconscious hope they'll get back together, so seeing her in an arranged marriage would be extremely upsetting, so really, he handled it quite well.

I'm trying to understand how setting up a person for sexual encounters is funny. I fail to find the humor in this situation.

I disagree. But, we've gone round on this for a while so I'll leave it at that.

Why is the name of Admiral Jean-Luc guy crossed out? Did he criticize Trainwreck Academy?

Well now they got Picardo, apparently initial fan reactions were that bad, that they had to (yet again) bring in the memberberries, so old fart fans like myself might enjoy this show of oversexed cadets for the glimpse of a second.

Oh boy, Star Trek jumped the shark long ago, now they just keep on administrating their own demise.
