Part of the problem of DIS's opening is it's prologue, not pilot. We're only introduced to two series regulars, with the rest of the cast waiting until Episode 3. And Context is for Kings works quite well as a pilot, telling us everything important about Michael's backstory in the opening scene.

I think the prologue of the first SA episode was too long, but I'm glad they went with 20 minutes of windup, instead of 2ish hours.

100% agreed, though from what I can tell, it was always Bryan Fuller's plan to have the show begin with that.

It's possible, however, that script changes after his departure bloated the prologue. Battle of the Binary Stars is one of the shortest episodes of Trek, at under 39 minutes. Some of the scenes (like the ones with Sarek) seem like they might have been added later as well.

Man, that Golden Gate bridge just can't catch a break with how it continually switches between having solar panels on it and not.

I just head canon the surface in TMP (any edition of that film) to be those solar panels, just with a different appearance depending on lighting conditions.

The bridge had solar panels in Discovery s1-2.

The bridge didn't have solar panels in ToS.

The bridge didn't have solar panels in TNG/DS9/VOY/LD/PR

The bridge did have solar panels in Picard

The bridge did have solar panels in Discovery S3-5.

The bridge didn't have solar panels in Academy but did have suicide nets for some reason.

In which case we saw it in almost every one of those movies and one can interpret those dark blue blocks or panels as a form of solar panel.

Maybe they didn't have to since the Burn only took out warp drives. If those stations ran on fusion engines, then they should have been spared.
