Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Personally I found the tacked on epilogue from Discovery’s finale so forgettable (as in, literally, I had forgotten that it was a thing), that I would have no problem just ignoring it. :)

But also, just knowing that it all eventually “turns out okay”, doesn’t necessarily negate that it could be interesting to see how they got there. ;)

Exactly. Sawandi Wilson is in his mid-thirties, so let us say there's a forty year time-jump between Season 5 and the Epilogue, using contemporary comparisons, that could put Season 5 in the Roaring Twenties, and the Epilogue in the sixties, jumping the Great Depression, World War 2, the Korean War, the start of the Vietnam War and the Cold War, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Spanish Civil War ...

After all, it's not the destination it's the journey. And sometimes the journey is a long road getting from here to there.

Alex Kurtzman wanted to make it relevant for today's youth.

It's not a happy happy, joy joy world out there (today's youth are facing social upheaval and a lousy economy).

They wouldn't have been able to relate to a 23rd century setting.
Alex Kurtzman has no idea what he's doing.

The whole problem with them saying they chose the 32nd century to "mirror the uncertainty of today" is we know on the show everything's going to turn out alright, since this series obviously takes place before the epilogue scene in Disco's finale based on the ages of Tilly, Reno and Admiral Vance in the trailers. And as we see in the epilogue, the Federation and Starfleet are thriving as they always have.
Na, post Discovery Starfleet's still under the control of a secret cabal that's sending it's ships on unsanctioned secret missions using illegal technology.

He is going to regret not going with the Legacy show. Especially when everyone falls in love with the Vision show. While everyone not getting into the Academy show he choose over it.

Kurtzman knows what he is doing. I think he just might be out of good ideas. He has been with Trek for a long time.
Kurtzman was responsible for the Section 31 movie.

Everything good that's come out of Trek under his watch has basically been either stuff he handed off to other people completely like Lower Decks/Prodigy, or stuff like Picard where he basically had to bow to everything Patrick Stewart said because Patrick Stewart was actually the one in charge.

He's so going to regret getting paid to work on a franchise he enjoys.

They will teach him the error of his ways. Shame on you Kurtzman. Shame.

He was never really the hardcore Trekkie though. Bob Orci was, then he and Kurtzman parted ways and Kurtzman continued with the franchise while Orci is now dead.
Should we blame Kurtzman for that too?

Did you really think P+ was going to approve two shows featuring Enterprise at the same time?
