Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I'm beginning to realize that one of the things I'm enjoying about Academy is that it isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. It isn't trying to be prestige TV like Discovery, it isn't overly reliant on backward-looking nostalgia and fan service like Picard, it isn't filled with forward-looking nostalgic gimmicks like Strange New Worlds. It's just trying to be Star Trek set at a school. And that's refreshing.
Yeah this is what's keeping me interested in it, personally I wouldn't say it feels entirely like a Star Trek series (yet), but it also doesn't feel like a cynical use of the franchise in the way the other recent shows sometimes have. So far it's just a sitcom with an unintrusive Star Trek skin, which it turns out makes for likeable viewing.

There's something refreshing about how it feels unburdened by the weight of the franchise, unlike Picard and SNW, which try way too hard to deeply root themselves in it.
