Ive just rewatched the scene you're referring to, and we don't actually see anything of the sort, we see him get sent to the regulation appearance arch, and for his medical check-in.
I would imagine he’s reading the responses from other sites. And likely moreso certain segments of responses from other sites. Overall consensus is pretty good for a show most of the audience wrote off before it came out.
That or he’s watching YouTube grifters.

It always surprises me how true this is. I'm not Discovery's shining knight, but I definitely don't think it's the worst either. There have been some real stinkers produced recently, but Discovery committed the sin of...growing the beard lol
The only reason I can really agree with the idea of Discovery not being the worst is because the Section 31 movie exists.
Are there episodes of Discovery that are better then episodes of other Trek series? Absolutely. But Discovery is also the only Trek series I've had absolutely no desire to ever rewatch.
I would watch Spocks Brain before I watched any episode of discovery again. Lol
I like all of the Pre-Mirror Universe episodes.
The War College is part of Starfleet Academy, just like the US Army has a war college...

Starfleet is the military. Their members are there to carry out the goals of the Federation. With armed conflict being the biggest driver of the organization existing.
Whereas, I would rather watch all of Discovery again than ever subject myself to the vast majority of Voyager, Enterprise or Picard.
The War College is just the late 32nd century analogue of the MACOs of the 22nd and the Starfleet Infantry of the 23rd.
Yeah, the decision to add a war college was a head scratcher to me at first, but I'm interested in seeing where they go with it.
After a century of being preyed on by the Emerald Chain and other rogue powers I'd be shocked if a post-Burn Federation didn't have a separate warfighting branch of uniformed service.

I don't think so. I think it is a combat slanted command school. It is clear that no one has to go to the war college to have a phaser put in their hand to shoot Klingons. Or the enemy of the week.
