News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

The executive producer of all shows in fact does have the authority to say what timeline it’s taking place in, and no feeble attempt at moving goalposts will change that.

Paramount owns the property. Kurtzman has a contract to produce the property exclusively through Paramount. Therefore, it is Prime timeline because he’s the one in charge.

Simple as that. You make not like it, but facts have no bearing on your feelings.

Boom. Mic Drop.

Yeah, and? The point was clearly made that there is no real 'prime' universe if everyone thinks their version of it is the 'correct' one.

Given the fact that 'Prime Timeline' is actually official Trek Franchise terminology that was coined by the Powers That Be, this argument holds no water.

I wasn't really on board with this show (other than I will definitely watch it anyway) until Picardo was added to the main cast. My feelings were basically, I still don't really want an Academy series, but I won't say no to the doctor. I've never been a fan of the idea any academy series. I'm pretty damn excited now that we have a teaser. It looks fun and now that I'm older, a series about young people who want to do the Star Trek things like be smart and kind and have meetings to avoid violence feels like exactly what I've been needing lately. Getting older is weird.

I’m with ya to a word, Klingon homeworld.

^ All that guy did was give the verbal equivalent of a shrug and spew out a bunch of words that didn't actually mean - or amount to - much of anything at all, so the fact that anybody would ever try to hinge an argument on those words is ridiculous.

I'm not talking about IRL. The 'argument' is that the fictitious people in the show, from whatever universe they hail from, consider their universe to be the 'prime' one. We've even seen an example of someone from an alternate universe using that term to describe their own universe.

So, now, getting back to IRL, a case can be made that the audience is free to interpret what they see on screen as taking place in the quote-unquote Prime universe, or an alternate universe, despite what the vaunted Powers That Be say, because it's all fiction and every universe is 'prime' to these characters anyway. The fact that members of this board go out of their way to alienate anyone who feels this way, even though those people are not actually telling other people that they need to believe it, is quite unwelcoming and distasteful IMHO. What the hell do you care how I interpret the show?

The producers of SNW and other CBSTrek are not taking the shows anywhere near as seriously as you are. So stop telling people how seriously they need to take them.

I thinks it's ironic that you're telling people arguing in favour of the prime timeline so seriously when people are taking it so seriously they literally have to deny reality because they don't like a tv show.

Would you not find it at least puzzling if I said that TNG does not occur in the same timeline as TOS or DS9 is in alternate universe to TNG because 'time travel'

To be honest, Roddenberry didn't think TOS and TNG took place in the same continuity, or at best he felt that things in TOS didn't actually happen the way we saw them on screen. With that said, that's obviously not what fans and future producers believed.

As far as TNG to DS9, that doesn't really work because it's glaringly obvious that the latter is a direct sequel to the former. But hey, if you didn't want to believe that, I'm not stopping you. How many Knight Rider sequels did they make that ended up not being in continuity with each other because the newest producer of them says so?

And really, 'time travel' has nothing to do with anything. The most cogent argument I've heard on that subject is the fan theory that ENT and everything going forward from that show production-wise takes place in a different timeline because of the events of FC. And even that's pretty iffy.

The funny part about getting older is you can still relate to the problems of young people, having, you know, been young yourself at one point.

I have some hope for the series being okay but I do feel like one might not want to get to attached because I think it will be cancelled after season 1 because of the merger. I feel like they have been slowly cleaning house of Kurtzman Trek. First out was Prodigy and then Lower Decks and we never got the Legacy show that billions of Trek fans wanted. Now they are wrapping up SNW. Not to mention Discovery was cancelled, despite them wanting to come back and do another series. I think Academy only got made because it was so far made that to cancel it before aired would be a lots of money. I do wonder what the new owners will do with the Trek franchise. Hopefully they will understand Trek works better on tv than at the movies.

They already set it up for a season 2
