Discovery was a prequel to TOS before season 3, so every event that happened in that show already happened from the perspective of TOS and the later series. Any changes made to the timeline during the first 2 seasons leads to the timeline as seen in the series set after it.
It never ceases to amuse me the straws that the anti-Discovery crowd will grasp at to justify their lame alternate universe theories.

No, a member of the production crew who didn't have the ability to set paramount policy said something like that. And they can be overridden at any time by the member of another production who doesn't like something Discovery has done. (See Lower Decks.)
Also that is not how time travel works in Trek, see the shifting Eugenics Wars. What we're seeing at any one point is, at best, just the most current iteration of the prime timeline.
I'd also remind you here that both Prodigy and Lower Decks consider the "Prime Timeline" to be down to personal opinion.
You may be right. Looking at the trailer, there seem to be at least a few shots of her getting romantic with Caleb.
Still, she's very much not featured in the trailer. The camera doesn't linger on her. And it's strange, if she's one of the six main cadets, we haven't gotten a bio sheet for her as well.
This could go one of two different ways. Maybe she's not in the first episode, only becoming a cadet a bit later?
Conversely, maybe Steiner's character isn't actually a main because she dies early on? Though if that were the case, I would expect the trailer to try and fake us out and think she was a main, rather than the inverse.
That's not how it works.
I think there was an interview where it did say she wasn't in the premiere, or at least she was a late arrival
In the first episode of the 5th season, the crew of the alternate Cerritos considered their universe to be the 'prime' one. I took that to mean that 'prime' is really just a buzzword these days that has very little meaning to anyone who isn't a member of the TrekBBS.
Well yes, from the perspective of people from another universe of course they'd see theirs as 'Prime'.
That's a joke going back decades in other franchises with multiverses.
Yeah, and? The point was clearly made that there is no real 'prime' universe if everyone thinks their version of it is the 'correct' one.
Very VERY few people remember who Kes is. Compounded with the fact that Jennifer Lien was written out of the show because personal issues kept affecting her performance, Paramount isn't going to spend a dime to bring her back.
They were going to fire Garrett Wang until he made the People's Most Sexiest. I never have heard Lien having issues during filming.
Funny, I don't remember anything about that. I just remember this Borg girl coming on board and Kes leaving. I don't remember them talking to each other at all.
Not to mention that she apparently got arrested again very recently.
She developed a latex allergy which meant she couldn't wear the ears any longer, which is why she switched to her natural long hair covering her ears late in Season 3.
She kept acting for another four years after she left Voyager in 1996. Her biggest role, in American History X, was in 1998.
Post 2000 was when she kind of fell off the face of the earth, and probably when the mental illness issues began in earnest.
The executive producer of all shows in fact does have the authority to say what timeline it’s taking place in, and no feeble attempt at moving goalposts will change that.
Paramount owns the property. Kurtzman has a contract to produce the property exclusively through Paramount. Therefore, it is Prime timeline because he’s the one in charge.
Simple as that. You make not like it, but facts have no bearing on your feelings.
