More Xavier than Picard? The type that runs a school instead of a starship I guess!

She's both.It doesn't say "captain", it says "chancellor of the school".
He'll be a "fully functional" hologram now, eh?Or, he's the original Doctor who has been upgraded countless times over the centuries. Who knows how many new capabilities he now may have? Good story fodder, that.
Curious as to what type of Captain we haven't seen yet?
It'll just be that Discovery corridor, repainted. All of it.I have to admit, seeing the inside of some Starfleet ships would be fun. The 32nd century shuttle was definitely different, curious as to what a bridge or sickbay would be like.
Yeah, I'm guessing not as serialised as Discovery but not as episodic as Strange New Worlds. A happy medium with mini-arcs, or two or three-parters.I'm curious what Kurtzman means about a "hybrid format" for the show they haven't done before. I'm guessing that means somewhere between serialized and episodic? Maybe a series of mini arcs?

Well, Tig is on the show so chances are Reno is a teacher. Her tech knowledge must be up to date as the Discovery was upgraded to 32nd Century specs. I think most people have encountered teachers as acerbic, snarky and sarcastic as Reno. Especially at the collegiate level.I could see the Doctor being that but Reno would be a terrible instructor. Most of her tech knowledge is thousands of years out of date and frankly she just doesn't strike me as a good teacher. She has to much of a loner, play by my own rules vibe to her. I see her still wanting to be out their on a ship solving engineering problems. Not cooped up in a classroom.
I had a small hope that it would be the ISS Enterprise, especially if they only need it now and then.I'm assuming Reno and the Doctor are instructors. Any ship based stories will be on a training ship and they and other instructors will be onboard to teach the cadets.
I suppose the name of the training ship could be a legacy designation. Probably not Enterprise or Voyager. Maybe Defiant?
Save money with the SNW sets.I had a small hope that it would be the ISS Enterprise, especially if they only need it now and then.

I think the implication in TWOK was the Enterprise crew were serving as instructors. Spock definitely was.Even though it is a show about the Academy I don't think that means for sure ever adult character has to be a teacher. I was thinking of DS9 episode "Valiant." From what I understand that ship had a senior crew making up the command staff of the ship. Red Squad cadets only took over after they all died. Also that was sort of same with Spock being captain of the Enterprise in "Wrath of Khan." Granted it is weird how Sulu and Uhura etc would still be serving on a ship being used for a training crews but I do see the logic of your senior staff still being experienced officers.
While cadets make up the support crew. In away these senior officers could sort of be seen as teachers I suppose but at the same time I think their main duty would still at making sure the ship is running smoothly. Plus if they do go with the old Enterprise I could see them seeing some logic in going with some who has previous engineering experience of serving on a old 23rd century ship that has been upgraded with modern tech. Not to mention as a training ship is possible they want ships that are not to advanced because they are cadets they don't want them serving on a ship that is to advanced for them to handle just yet, due to their age.
SPOCK: As a teacher on a training mission, I am content to command the Enterprise. If we are to go on actual duty, it is clear that the senior officer on board must assume command.

There are still such training courses: https://www.usna.edu/Sailing/bst/index.phpI gather we train naval cadets on sailing ships for that same reason.![]()
