Starblazers / Yamato live action movie

Not too impressed with Takuya Kimura aka Mr. Brain... being the lead in this.

Re: Live action STARBLAZERS...

Details, details, details. Is this a real movie, or just a youtube thing?

Re: Live action STARBLAZERS...

According to what I've read, it's a real movie, produced in Japan, coming out this year.

Thank God you embedded that, because I couldn't figure out how to use those fancy hyper-links to the YouTube page.

This will probably be like a thousand other Japanese live-action adaptations: refreshingly close to the source material as far as plot and design elements go but rather deficient in most other areas.

A huge Starblazers movie would be cool, but I think we'll see a big Robotech movie before that ever happens.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.

I would be enormously pleased with both.

To me the real joy of Star Blazers was the long-form serialized story format. To a little kid, it just seemed to go on and on forever. Squeezing it down into 2 hours makes it just another low-budget sci-fi movie. I wish they had done a weekly TV show instead.

Toby McGuire's production company has optioned Robotech for a live action film in partnership with Harmony Gold.

Of course the film SEEMS to be stuck in "development hell" as they try to sort out things like rights issues to some of the mechas and what-not, as well as find backing.

I wouldn't expect it in the next year or two, but maybe by 2013...maybe...
