Starblazers / Yamato live action movie

Isn't 22 million a relatively big budget for a live action Japanese film?

I've read that 80 percent of the movie is CG or actors on virtual sets, due to most of the story happening on board the ship and in outer space. CG could go a long way with that - 22 million dollars is like ten episodes of (modern) Battlestar Galactica, isn't it?

In point of fact, the CG style looks a LOT like BSG / Zoic studios stuff. Not that this is a bad thing. The shot of the fighter pilot putting her helmet on in the teaser even looks like a direct take on a BSG viper pilot suit and helmet. Hmm...

Looks cool...too bad an american studio can't make this movie...with 3x the budget.

I wish a hollywood studio whould have donr this project, I know Voyager Entertainment (who owns the rights in the US) would love to do it. I would have prefered a re-imagined tv series, basicly having two 16 (1 hour) epidode season covering the Iscandar stroy and seasons 3 and 4 cover the comet empire. And god would I LOVE to see a live action battle of the final battle between the Comet Empire and Argo (err. Yamato..) similar to how it plays out in episode 25 and 26 of the Comet empire series.

This will probably be like a thousand other Japanese live-action adaptations: refreshingly close to the source material as far as plot and design elements go but rather deficient in most other areas.
Unfortunately, I have to agree.

A huge Starblazers movie would be cool, but I think we'll see a big Robotech movie before that ever happens.
I would be enormously pleased with both.

Toby McGuire's production company has optioned Robotech for a live action film in partnership with Harmony Gold.

Of course the film SEEMS to be stuck in "development hell" as they try to sort out things like rights issues to some of the mechas and what-not, as well as find backing.

I wouldn't expect it in the next year or two, but maybe by 2013...maybe...
2013...yeah...sure.

Harmony Gold has a crap track record with Robotech. As far the Mecha legal issues, I doubt they'll crack that nut. That's why everything was so radically redid in Shadow Chronicles: Cause HG has been on the bad end of the settlements for years now. If they do anything-- IF-- we'll probably see something akin the Transformers (live action) version of Starscream. Besides F-14s-- as bad ass as they are-- probably wouldn't work with today's movie going crowd; and I shudder to think of what's going to happen to the SDF-1

Oh, I agree it'll likely be longer. Just saying not to expect it any time soon.

In recent years, I would agree.

As far the Mecha legal issues, I doubt they'll crack that nut. That's why everything was so radically redid in Shadow Chronicles:

The only major "redesigns" in SC were the SDF-3 and arguably Rick Hunter. The rest of the spacecraft, mecha, costumes, et al were pretty much in keeping with Sentinels and or New Generation, which was appropriate considering the time frame the movie was set in.

Cause HG has been on the bad end of the settlements for years now
.

No denying that is a stumbling block.

If they do anything-- IF-- we'll probably see something akin the Transformers (live action) version of Starscream.

Many people fear that.

Besides F-14s-- as bad ass as they are-- probably wouldn't work with today's movie going crowd; and I shudder to think of what's going to happen to the SDF-1

F-14s will be badass forever... :)

And yes, the SDF-1 issue is important.

MY biggest WTF about the RTLAM is Toby supposedly wanting to play Rick... (where's the barf icon when you need it?)

since were talking live action anime remakes, I want to see a remake of "The Irresponsible Captain Tylor" it's one of my favorite series' *and if I ever get my hands on the capital, I'll be handleing a live action Outlaw Star myself*

So the trailer says 2010, but when is the live action movie coming out?? Also, I just saw Yamato 2520 for the first time...I like it...love the Syd Mead designs.

RAMA

It will be released in 329 days...

OK well better than never...

I'm not sure if you're making a joke or not, but the 329 days is a reference to how long the Argo/Yamato had to make it to Iscandar and return. Each episode of Star Blazers would end up with the voice saying "Hurry Starforce, the Earth just has XXX days left"

This looks very nice.
Can't wait for that film.

The song sounds awful but the visuals are fantastic :)

There's a countdown over at the official movie web page. The movie will be out in Japan in December.

I bet the next trailer will be all sorts of awesome.

If they end up selling replica jackets I'll probably get one.

That does look pretty neat. Yamato is one of the few classic animies I haven't had the chance to try out yet. I should probably get around to it sometime

OMG!!! That looks fuckin' cool...wish it was in English. :(

:bolian:

[edit] OMG! OMG! OMG! I am lovin' this everytime I see it. :D
