You're on to something here. On Season two of Star Wars Rebels there was an episode where Ezra is riding space whales (don't ask, lol) but at one point he is clearly able to withstand the vacuum of space for an extended amount of time... pretty sure Pablo Hidago was accosted on Twitter immediately about this, he didn't go into detail but suggested our galaxy's physics are resting on a different scale than the Star Wars galaxy. I checked Google but I can't track this quote down.
It's a galaxy far far away, and not a separate universe. Physics in the universe is shall we say, universal..lol
I feel like these new movies don't really have a story to tell, it feels like more you are watching a list of tried and true, guaranteed to generate a reaction, sequences being checked off of a list somewhere, I feel like I'm trying to be sold something when I watch these films, it's like watching a sales pitch video, there isn't this a story where everything you are seeing on screen is a logical organic extension of it, It feels forced (excuse the pun) you can definitely see where they left stuff out on purpose to be filled in with (sold separately) comics and tie in novels, I feel like I'm watching a product, not someone's passion to tell a good story.

I think Kylo was a bit preoccupied with hatred to notice that. He also didn't notice that Luke didn't leave any footprints, or disturb the salt at all when he moved.
I was browsing books for this film when I came upon this nugget of information.
The casino planet is located on the opposite side of the galaxy from the Rebel fleet, at least 80,000 to 90,000 light years away from the rebel fleet. Yet, somehow, two rebels from the rebel fleet can travel to and fro the casino planet in less than a day. The physics of this universe are definitely different from our own.
Considering the fleet is in the Outer Rim, and they are relying on allies in this region, and those allies do not respond to calls for help, it really magnifies how really screwed the Resistance is at the end. According to the sources, mentioned above, the fleet we saw in the film was it. There were no other ships in the Resistance fleet. Those were old ships re-purposed.
So, the Resistance has no fleet, has no sizable number of troops, and there are doubts about its ability to survive - many worlds are surrendering to the First Order after the events in TFA and the Resistance has demonstrated that they are experts at failing. If this was the real world, the Resistance would be finished. This isn't, so how does JJ Abrams salvage this situation?

Civil war within the First Order. What's left of the Resistance stokes the Hux and Kylo rivalry, gets some kind of power grab going, turns the different First Order systems against each other.
He can’t. The Last Jedi has [made] the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy FUBAR.
Suspect he could have reasoned that Luke simply built a replica in the intervening years. If someone is attacking you with a light saber, you don't tend to say "hang on a minute, there couldn't be two like that, I name thee a Force projection!" as it's a pretty high stakes gamble.
I haven’t given up hope but ever since they didn’t shortlist Anthony Ingruber for the lead, I’ve been less keen. But the beauty of the current schedule is that if you don’t like this one, you won’t have been waiting 3 years only to be disappointed and you won’t need to wait 3 years for another.
This movie was...all over the place. Better than TFA (but to be honest, that's not exactly hard...that movie gets worse every time I rewatch it). The first 90 minutes or so are perfunctory and kind of meh (I did like SuperLeia and the battle though), and the final 60 minutes are stronger. But it still commits similar sins as TFA: paint-by-numbers, perfunctory events with very little world-building.
For all the flaws of the prequels, Lucas understood world-building and immersion. These Disney films have very little of both. As bad as Attack of the Clones is at times for example, I feel like I'm whisked away to another galaxy when I watch it. With these films, I don't feel that. At all. And that's not good. This was a 143 minute movie without credits, and only the last hour saves it.
The porgs were stupid (but they'll sell toys). Rose was....ugh. On the plus side, I did like Rey and Finn more in this film than TFA. I loved Yoda. Leia was great in this too. And the hyperspace ramming thing was cool.
I get what Rian Johnson did with Luke, although I don't necessarily agree. The whiole thing with Ben/Kylo as a student could've been averted if Luke sat Ben's ass down and set up a Force Ghost Conference Call with Anakin (and Yoda and Qui Gon for good measure). Snoke was such a wasted opportunity.
Stylistically these Disney sequels just leave me cold.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next movie begins with Kylo already outed.
He didn’t exactly give a good showing as leader, and surely the Mini-Empire has its mini-Tarkins, Thrawns, and Krennics. Even OT Sidious wasn’t depicted as only keeping his throne because of his ability to strangle people.

General Hux and Kylo Ren have, since the first scene we saw them together in TFA, varying opinions about the First Order military. Such a disagreement between generals and leaders can lead to catastrophic consequences.
I re-watched the film.

I think the difference between this trilogy and earlier trilogies is that the current trilogy has to be in-synch with the extra-canonical material - the comics, the books, the video games. It's all one big story. Before - the best example being the Prequels, the filmed material could override what was stated in the extra-canonical material. This might be one explanation at the weak attempts at world building in the films - the world building is being left to the other material.

Well I tried sleeping on it, to see if I felt a little better about this mess of a film. Sadly I think if anything, even my enjoyment of The Force Awakens is now tainted because every scene in that movie is now leading up to this dismal piece of crap. I think I'm gonna go back to bed.
I just thank the maker that I can at least separate this trilogy from real Star Wars. No way this Johnson fellow is going to Kevin Spacey my childhood.
