What's really getting to me about this show is all the promotional material focused on the other pilots, who so far have barely been featured in the show. Damn it, I want to learn just what the deal is with the ex-Imperial who apparently has no interest in the First Order.

This week's episode actually almost looked good for once, thanks to the moody lighting and muted colors on the derelict ship. I'm beginning to get the idea that the intention behind the Colossus's planet is that it's got unusually bright sunlight, hence the overexposed look in all its outdoor scenes, but it still looks terrible.

So it looks like we have a new recurring character, Synara, who sounded to me like Kelly Hu, but the credits said it was Nazneen Contractor. With her purple skin tone, is she a Zeltron from the Marvel Star Wars comics? I think I heard that they'd been reintroduced into canon at some point.

Zelosian would be interesting, as they are basically plant based humanoids, that look human, but really aren't.

Yeah, Salacious was basically Jabba's court jester (it's ambiguous as to whether or not he's sentient.) Those ones were probably feral to begin with and whipped up into a frenzy by the general pandemonium of the Kowakian Ape on the loose.

Given that slavery exists in the Star Wars galaxy, being sentient and being caged and sold like pets are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

In ROTJ, Salacious B. Crumb spoke to R2-D2 after R2 zapped him to get him to stop chewing on 3PO's eye, so I'd say Salacious B. Crumb was sentient (i.e., sapient).

Well he certainly vocalised and chattered at him (and did a lot of inane laughing.) Whether that's an actual language is anyone's guess. I suppose it also depends on where you draw the line between "very clever and/or cunning animal" and "sapient being".

My personal suspicion is that he was meant to be technically sapient (more or less), though not terribly bright and possibly deranged.

The Platform Classic was interesting to me because it included those ring things from the obstacle courses in X-wing Alliance. Funny how something that minor makes me pay attention.

I thought "The Platform Classic" was a better than average episode, in the top two or three so far. The only contenders would be "The High Tower" and "Synara's Score." I haven't got that sorted out, because I had some issues with "Synara's Score" about which pirates were doing what and where on the platform that I need to get settled by a rewatch.

My biggest issue with "The Platform Classic" was why they couldn't have had Yeager win and then pay off his brother's debts.

Anyway, if they could keep episodes at this level or better, I'd enjoy the series more.

This week's was one of the better episodes, mostly on account of delving into Yeager's background and minimizing Kaz's role.

The Platform Classic was interesting to me because it included those ring things from the obstacle courses in X-wing Alliance. Funny how something that minor makes me pay attention.

The rings have been a feature of every race in the show so far, although up to now they've just been markers to pass through and didn't play a more active role.

This week's was one of the better episodes, mostly on account of delving into Yeager's background and minimizing Kaz's role.

Yeah, some interesting character drama here, though it was a bit odd that the brothers were able to have an in-depth emotional conversation and concentrate on a life-or-death race at the same time. And less Kaz is definitely better, which is a problem for a show designed to center on Kaz. (But then, I never much liked Ezra either.)

Absolutely my main concern right now is this. This show *could* have centered around Yeager instead of Kaz! Perhaps it will at some point. Or more likely - Kaz will cease being so green. He'll get a different colored jacket then, I suppose.

And I keep telling myself we see very little of the First Order because the entire show hinges on its reveal - or at least until we reach the Sequel Trilogy timeline. After that, I'm hoping for generous storylines devoted to more of what we need to see like Phasma, Starkilller Base, Snoke, Kylo Ren, The Supremacy, etc. etc. and maybe even those Knights of Ren we barely get to see.

Thoughts on recent episodes:
The Children from Tehar: The solution to the 'problem' of this episode was well done. Star Wars Ninja Turtles to the rescue. Lets see more of them, please.
Signal From Sector Six: Synara is a compelling character, particularly her interactions with Tam. Kaz spends some time flying. Wins all around.
Synara's Score: I like the countdown aspect of getting the defensive guns ready on time. There's something deliciously ironic about Kaz finding Neeku annoying, if only for a moment here and there.
The Platform Classic: It took half the first season, but this show is living up to its promise and episodes like this are a benchmark. (*Guavian Death Gang!*) It ends on a typical Kaz cringe moment - begging for friendship from a droid.
