Less Jedi is always fine by me. They've had center stage for 8 movies, plus Clone Wars and Rebels.

Also, I like how "Solo had a problem" because "no Jedi" but "Rogue One was ok?"

Rogue One had Vader and at least some use of The Force. And it was also a much better movie overall. Solo was ok, but this is a much different franchise without The Force. Also, the reason the Jedi had center stage is because they are that good.

Vader was in there for 3 minutes. I could remove those scenes with no impact to the overall narrative, at all.

Solo is the action/adventure style that Lucas had based Star Wars on with racing and Western heist thrown in.

Also, the Jedi being center stage because they are "that good" is debatable. Certainly they did not come across as good in the PT, nor where they the sole focus of the OT, if Han Solo's popularity as a character is anything to go by.

No one is arguing for "No Force!" but rather that it doesn't need to be center stage. Largely because it is a huge galaxy and doesn't require every single story to be about the Force. And, arguably, the vast majority of the stories in Star Wars have used the Force in some way. So, Solo, Rogue One and Resistance are allowed to forage in to new territory without any harm to the franchise as a whole.

Exactly. The value of a large franchise is that its different parts can have different focuses and therefore appeal to different audiences. Someone who didn't like one part of it might like another part better; it's not necessary that any one person like every part equally, because the goal is to attract a wider range of people overall. If you make every part exactly the same in style and focus as every other part, that kind of defeats the purpose of broadening the franchise in the first place.

Actually what always amused me about the "Star Wars isn't Star Wars without Jedi and the Force" complaint that has cropped up in response to the Anthology movies and now Resistance is that the dearly lamented EU covered lots of aspects of the Star Wars universe which had nothing to do with Jedi, Sith or the Force at all. And this stuff is somehow on a pedestal among many as being "more Star Wars than the OT."
In one scene, which was added during the reshoots.

And should have been taken straight out again i.m.o.
Personally I like that we're not digging ourselves into another hole of having a Jedi that we are going to have to deal with fairly soon or risk stepping on some fairly big toes. Granted the whole Resistance is destined to be wiped out save for the contents of one small corellian freighter so looks like that's another kids view point character we're going to have to "kill" off by series end before the tykes put two and two together.

I read that Dave Filoni will be playing a role on the show similar to what George Lucas played for Clone Wars, basically only there for story meetings.

I imagine that Filoni is far too busy being an executive producer on, and directing at least one episode (although I've heard the rumor of two episodes) of The Mandalorian to be active on the day to day matters of Resistance.

I almost corrected you saying he wasn't an EP on that show, but then I read that press release again.

Some how I missed that the first few times I read it.

But to add to this, Filoni is also busy working on the Clone Wars continuation.

Personally, I love that Filoni is making the move to live action. He's my fantasy choice to take over for Kathleen Kennedy.

Not necessarily. Kaz might decide to stay on the Colossus after his assignment is done and the First Order mole is exposed. Hell, maybe the Colossus is where the Falcon is going at the end of TLJ?

Greg Grunberg is returning as Snap Wexley in episode IX so Kaz could've been off with him somewhere.

Possible I know black squad are off somewhere in the comics at the moment and I assume we are going to have to bolster numbers from somewhere anyway just because some nerd on the internet will have scanned the crowd shots from the end of the movie and expect every extra to be represented in the next movie so they're going to have to give themselves some creative wiggle room. Not to mention Lando.

Yes, the Poe Dameron comics are great. I don't know offhand which numbered issues, but they recently just filled in some story between 7 and 8 which was quite well done, and highly recommended reading to anyone in this thread interested in the Sequel Trilogy timeline.

For the recent episode Fuel for the Fire, was not satisfying [/Comic Book Guy] but I know that the list of episodes to come are looking much better. For me, this was the Rebels: Fighter Flight episode of Resistance. As others have stated, the quality and seriousness and good stuff in the episodes of Resistance to come should be all but guaranteed at this point, if The Clone Wars and Rebels are a good indicator.

I am looking so forward to the next episode, The High Tower. We need baddies in this show desperately. So far they only appear for a few seconds of screen time, enough for us to know that they exist.

Nice idea! I could see Snap as a character on Resistance for sure.

This episode didn't really impress me much, a bog standard storyline of Kaz trying to impress the Cool Gang which backfires on him. I did like getting some insight into Yeager's backstory, but otherwise meh.

I thought Episode 5 "The High Tower" was a substantial and needed improvement from the previous episodes.

There were still some cringeworthy moments, but on the upside the story was tighter, more character dynamics were introduced, and the issues between the First Order and the station were laid out. The ledge run was fairly well done.

I wonder if Kaz's jacket is green, because Kaz is... wait for it... green.

    Nice catch!
Perhaps Kaz and Neeku are meant to represent the innocence or naive of 'peacetime.' The First Order seems well-known but not completely feared yet.

Yeah, this was the first episode I think I could happily watch twice. Finally some baddies! I think this is the first episode that corrects the story into a good direction.

When Neeku confronted the First Order I was kind of hoping he'd be captured. The less green Kaz becomes over the course of the series, you gotta wonder if Neeku is going to stay the same. He's even worse at the spy game than Kaz is. To be fair, Kaz did up his spy game considerably this time around and learned something useful.
