Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

Well this looks interesting...

I suppose I shouldn't be surprise they're tying into TFA, I just didn't think it'd happen almost straight out of the gate. Also, lots of teases going on with some seemingly deep ties to the Jedi/Sith lore.

Random observations in no particular order: -
Hera's father? Didn't they kill him off in one of the new novels? Maybe I just misread or misremembered something, Also, would that make the female with him Hera's sister? Looks to young to be her mother.

Yellow TIE Fighters? OK... Could that be Sienar R&D facility perhaps, making those test articles/prototypes? Could they be doing the Incom defection/theft of the X-Wing design story?

The Sith ruins weren't just abandoned, something nasty happened there. The the city around the pyramid is full of remains, captured in their death throws Pompeii style. Could this be Malachor? That cross hilt lightsaber design has already been linked with that incident and here we find one amidst the bodies and a Jedi one to boot, going by the blade colour.

What's with the ancient Jedi Guardians and the dojo? Force vision? Holocron projection? A bit of both? Also, that one's voice sounds...familiar...
Could they be surviving Masters? That place where they're fighting the Inquisitors looks a lot like the council chamber. Another ancient Jedi temple perhaps? Actually wait, was that establishing shot of the Lothal temple? The winter setting threw me off a bit. I mean since when do Star Wars planets have seasons, or more that one type of scenery?! ;)

What's also familiar is this "Old Master" character. My initial reaction (as I suspect was the intent) was "holy crap, is that Snoke?!" But a closer look at the face markings and listening to the voice more carefully, it's pretty obvious who it really is. I wondered if he'd ever show up again.

Another new Inquisitor? I'm starting to get a bit of a "Knights of Ren" vibe from these guys...

The new designs for Anakin & Yoda look a little weird, but then so did Obi Wan's & Vader's at first. Speaking of which, I wonder where that footage of Anakin is from? His outfit doesn't match anything we've seen him in before and the big 'ole Jedi symbol the the chest (similar to the guardians') suggests a temple training session. I thought it might be from the missing decade between TPM & AOTC, but the lack of a braid suggests otherwise.

Hmm...ringed desert planet with what looks like the wreckage of three Trade Federation ships in orbit? Geonosis? Should that have *something else* in orbit at this point? A certain spherical construction project?

Looks like yet another EU ship design has made it into canon, or rather heavily inspired a new one.

More McQuarrie artwork brought to life, this time it's the spider/fungus looking things from the Dagobah concept art.

Oh and Ahsoka vs Vader! But then that was always just a matter of time, no? ;)

Holy shit!

Leia, Yoda, Anakin, DARTH FUCKING MAUL!

My thoughts exactly. I thought it could be
Stook or however you spell it, not Maul, but if that was him, that's cool.

I forgot to mention that I continue to be impressed with the score on this show. Wasn't until the third run though of that trailer that I noticed they'd done a much punchier take on Ahsoka's theme.

I always felt that the melody they picked for her was a little indistinct and low tempo, unlike say Luke, Leia's & Vader/Anakin's all of which you can easily hum. That may be partly a failure of imagination on my part as I mostly associate Ahsoka's theme with the lilting melancholy string & woodwind version they used for her departure scene.

That looks incredible! Looks like we're going heavy on the Jedi stuff in this second half of the season. I'm all for it.

I thought this was supposed to be set 15 years before "A New Hope"?

Leia looks mature enough to jump into "A New Hope" pretty soon. Maybe two years at most.

It seems like it's turning into another season of Clone Wars - which I know some people love.

Certainly a lot of time to burn in-universe but at this point we're quite a ways away from "that boy is our last hope/no, there is another" Force-wise.

The expectation is of course that all the Jedi characters will die, turn to the dark side, or be otherwise removed from the table, so to speak, until after Return of the Jedi. (Carbon Freeze was a suggestion)

That or these Jedi reach their potential, but still have no chance against Darth Vader, much less Palpatine, and Yoda knows that. Meaning, while they might be good and all, they are not their last hope, as only Luke (and probably Leia) have any chance against Darth Vader simply because they can pull on what light is left inside him. Even Ahsoka won't be able to pull on it enough to turn him back, and she's the closest attachment he had that wasn't family (and didn't cut his limps off). Though it be weird if the "there is another" wasn't Leia, but Obi-wan didn't know about the likes of Ezra, since only Yoda had communicated with him.

However they are dipping into the lore of the Jedi, seemingly quite a bit. We may see somethings we hadn't expected. Or more references to thing we see in The Force Awakens.

The question becomes, will a Disney kids show have the midi-cholorians to kill off Ezra and Kanan and Ahsoka by the final episode? How dark are they willing to go?
