Star Wars Rebels Season Three (spoilers)

Thrawn seems to have knowledge about their being the potential of a larger rebel fleet than what we have seen with Phoenix group. Could that potentally show us the Mon Cala rebel cell with a few star cruisers? Or a former Separatist holdout cell that still has some old Clone Wars era capital ships and battle droids fighting the Empire?
If anything, I'd say it's just a fleet we're going to see slaughtered at some point this season to sell how much of a Big Deal Thrawn is.
If that clip proves nothing else, its that having Maul be the "strong, silent type" in TPM was a good idea, and he just doesn't work when he's just chatting (TCW had a similar problem, but the whole "resurrecting maul" thing was stupid in the first place, so I guess it doesn't matter that he's barely connected to TPM character at this point).
Personally, I like that someone is finally doing something with Maul, even if it is currently seventeen years after TPM. It sort of does make up for the fact that despite being the face of merchandising for TPM, he really had shit all to do in the movie.

Have they actually specified what the passage of time has been on the show to date? It seems they generally like to be pretty vague about such things.

It is in the "Steps Into Shadows" Trivia Gallery on Starwars.com. The sixth image (of the group discussing the Y-wings) has the caption, "About six months have passed since the end of Season Two in the lives of the characters."

Yeah, he had such a cool design and had a cool lightsaber fight, but its almost like the designers did too good a job with him. They made him look much cooler and more interesting then his role in the film made him.

I don't necessarily disagree, but it does seem implicit that he's convinced there's a much more significant force out there than the handful of ships we've seen over the course of the last season.

That's interesting. But how did you arrive at two years? IIRC the 'Empire Day' from season one was the 15th anniversary, which roughly places that episode at about 4 years before ANH. I'm not sure if a full 18 months have past between then and 'Twilight of the Apprentice' to make up that difference. A full year perhaps, but no more IMO.
That's just guesswork of course, unless you're aware of any other passages of time being specified?

you can't blame the designers for Lucas writing a shitty character.

Well to be fair he was never intended to be a character so much as a threat with legs (*pause for irony*) and his only function in the story was that of a henchman. Really speaking, he had about as much development, exposure and only slightly less dialogue as Boba Fett did in tESB & RotJ combined.

Leia's appearance was supposed to be three years before Yavin, and it has been a while since then. We don't know how exact the years are since we don't know in relation to Empire Day the Battle of Yavin was anyway in that year. One assumes after Empire Day since the Skywalkers are considered to be 19 years old, or they would be turning 19 that year once Empire Day passes. So it generally comes that Season Three is two years before Yavin (plus or minus six months).

Much like it was hard to pin down how long it has been between Empire Strikes Back and Return on the Jedi back in 1983. Was it three months? Six months? They wouldn't leave Han hanging for a year would they? Guess they did, or the years are semi-vague with Hoth happening three years after Yavin and Endor four years after Yavin. Only Jakku is a specific number of days after Endor.

There you have it.

Again though, where exactly was it stated that her mission to Lothal was three years prior to ANH? I mean it couldn't have been in the episode itself and I can't see it mentioned anywhere in the trivia gallery.

You're not wrong though in that the exact passage of time is difficult to pin down (deliberately I'm sure) since Empire Day and by extension the ages of Ezra & the Skywalker twins are the only points of reference we have to go by.

For what it's worth (though I'm not sure where I got this from), but I was always under the impression from *way* back that it was three and a half years from ANH to tESB and another six months from tESB to RotJ.

I seem to recall the Leia's arrival being three years before Yavin from an interview or article on the episode. Partly to make her seem older at 16 years old, even though she's a few days to a week younger than Ezra.

The new episode is out and well...that ending was unexpected. Didn't expect them to go there quite so soon.

So, I guess we're going to be seeing Obi-Wan at some point down the line? At least I'm assuming that's who Maul freaked out about learning is alive, particularly connected to that which can destroy the Sith (Luke?) amidst "twin suns" (Tatooine?)

Somebody told me there was a major event in this episode, so I was all excited, but nothing happened! The closest thing was Ezra having a vision of "twin suns", which I assume is Luke and Leia, and Maul learning "he is alive". He who? Oppress? Anakin? Luke?

EDIT: Duh, of course. He's talking about Obi-Wan. He saw a vision of Obi-Wan watching over Luke on Tattooine, which has twin suns.

Random thought. What if they don't address what happens with the vision in Rebels, but instead they announce a Kenobi anthology movie instead that resolves this plotline?

Overall this was a good one. I honestly didn't expect them to start moving on these plot points so quickly.
Not sure I've seen so many people saying they didn't understand the vision, it seems simple enough to me. Maul asked for hope and sees oblivion, Ezra asks for the key to destroying the Sith and gets Luke, or at least the places he will be. Maul sees some of this once he sees Kenobi, that's all he can see.

The spooky part is that as the scene started, I actually thought to myself "it'd be wild if Ezra sees twin suns" (thinking of the iconic sunset scene with Luke.) I didn't expect him to actually *say* it!

From what I gather from celebration, that base is actually from one of the TCW Maul episodes that never got made. This is born out by the presence of the Mandalorian ship painted up with his colours.

I'm glad they're finally going to bring 'Wicket Goes Fishing' into canon. A much overlooked classic. ;)

Io9 tried to talk to Dave Filoni about the visions, but he pretty much just gave them non-answers. One answer could maybe be interpreted as confirmation we'll see Luke though.

Well he is Dave Filloni. That's sort of his whole thing.

I'm not crazy about it myself, I wish they had let his hair grow longer. Just my 2 cents

They give him floppy Aladdin hair: people complain. They give him a buzzcut: people complain. I really do feel sorry for them at times. ;)

A Kenobi vs Maul revenge flick with heavy western overtones? I'd watch that.

I would be shocked if they brought back Maul in live action. For 95% of the populace, Maul was in a single movie in 1999 that he died in. I think the general audience would have a problem (and a great deal of confusion) with him coming back.

Have you heard the massive concerns Lucasfilm has that most of the audience doesn't understand that Rogue One is a prequel, and not the next Rey/Finn/Poe movie?

I think the bigger hurdle would be casting Maul. On the one hand bringing back Park seems like a no brainer since he's still in good shape and very enthusiastic to return...but he's not really a dramatic actor and Maul is now a much more nuanced and talkative character than he was in TPM.

I haven't heard even the slightest concern to that effect. Though I have heard a lot of made-up rumours, but those always flutter about where there's a lack of any actual news going on. ;)
