Star Wars: Question on ROTS?

Perhaps we need a Star Wars subforum? With six movies, two animated series (one currently airing), a multitude of books, comics, and games, and 3D releases and a live-action series on the horizon, Star Wars certainly has just as much to talk about as Stargate, if not more.

There was a Star Wars sub forum for a while back when the Prequels were coming out it got some traffic for a while there but in the end it dies down and the remaining traffic didn't justify the existence of the forum and this was when there were new movies coming out and on the horizon.

Yet threads like these continue to pop up over the course of the year. We do have "Star Wars The Clone Wars" to discuss but maybe that doesn't justify a sub-forum. I know it's been discussed before. I think it would be a great idea in order to remove the clutter from Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Considering how often the question is brought up in QSF and how quickly it's always taken down, there's not much point in belaboring it here.

Re: Star Wars: Is it possible to watch the prequels before the origina

I find thaat in general FX is secondary in a film. Story/Characterisation are more important, people will forgive poor FX if the above is there. However it doesn't matter how good the FX if the story/Characterisation is lacking.
Exactly, why do you think the Original Star Trek is still watched after all these years...

Re: Star Wars: Is it possible to watch the prequels before the origina

i watched TPM and AOTC, then went and saw ROTS at the cinema, then watched ANH, ESB and ROTJ and enjoyed it all.

but then, i'm not a prequels hater and i don't think Lucas raped my childhood, so what do i know?
Well, the prequels WERE part of my childhood, and I was still severely disappointed

Watching the OT will simply reinforce what garbage the PT is, unless you think eye candy is all that counts in a movie, and such things as acting and writing are irrelevant.

But you should check out The Clone Wars TV series (not the micro-episodes, the one that has half hour episodes.) It's what the PT should have been.
ok cool. do you mean the CGI cartoon or the one from 2003? ive seen a few eps of the CGI one and wow, it's really great! grevious, dooku, it's all awesome

Nope. I just listen to them on DVD. I love commentary tracks. It's either on the Episode II commentary or the Empire Strikes Back. He talks extensively about the clones for a few minutes.

can anyone specify this?

But the question is one of content. Is there enough Star Wars threads or discussion of the Clone Wars series to necessitate an entire forum?

As I said, we had one and the traffic in the forum didn't justify the forum's existence there simply were not enough people discussing enough Star Wars topics to make it worth while and this is when there were new movies being released.

I love the commentaries on the star wars films too. It's hilarious how much BS is spoken about. 'The Tragedy of Darth Vader', WTF?

Yeah, that left many fans head-scratching. There was no great outline of the entire saga back in the 70s as Lucas has often claimed. Each Star Wars films went through multiple drafts and so on...

Have you read 'The Secret History of Star Wars'? It's good.

It's one of the books I'm working my way through right now, and I agree, it's good. FINALLY somebody discusses the writing that went into Star Wars, instead of just talking about the damned special effects all the time.

THIS is the "making of" I've always been interested in.

^ It really is an awesome read. Listening to Lucas's constant revisionism is hilarious and facepalm inducing at times. I'm sure some of the stuff he has stated was intact in earlier drafts, I don't know though why he can't admit that he has made it up as he has gone along. There's no shame in that.

And thanks for turning me onto it. It was your earlier recommendation that convinced me to buy it in the first place.:bolian:

^ You're most welcome. :) I'm a big fan of the book. It's one of the most well written, in depth behind the scenes books I've ever read.

I don't understand, ReadyandWilling. You've claimed that you have been watching the prequels a lot recently and that you also have some extra free time in the coming weeks. Clearly, you have time to watch the commentary tracks in addition to planning to watch and/or rewatch the movies to begin with. Why do you plan to spend an afternoon by watching the movies which you have already seen when you can spend an afternoon watching something somewhat new? If anything, they will probably give you a lot more insight on the creation of the movies and lead you to more places in Star Wars fiction you might find interesting.
