Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

I'm fully aware the debt we as Star Wars owe Alan Ladd and it was John Carter's director who took over the marketing of the movie, which was were the error happened. But really who wanted Disney to take over Star Wars?

While I would not have championed it, I see no reason to be concerned about it either.

Also, there were several errors that happened with John Carter, hence the reason I liked to the LA Times article. I'm not going to hold that project, with a specific set of circumstances, against Disney.

Not sure why I should, either

It's a strange question. It's like asking, who wanted Coke Zero? Nobody needed it or was asking for it but it's here now and I love it!

My go to for that is, AT LEAST we're getting new SW now and some of it may even be good to great! Sure as hell it was dying a death under Lucas and the last shit HE put out was "yippee", a coughing robot, Jar Jar and [Darth Vader]"NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/Darth Vader].

I'M personally VERY glad Disney took over as I'm EXTREMELY excited about TFA, which may have never happened under Lucas and when I next travel back to the States, I'll get to visit a SW land at Disneyland!

How exactly was Star Wars dying a death under Lucas? Ever since the prequels started in 1999 we've had nothing continued new Star Wars, three different Clone Wars shows and now Rebels and the video games. As opposed to the the time between ROTJ and TPM where we had tow Ewok TV movie, an Ewok and a Droids cartoon a ton of EU books and all manner of action figures.

Again, we are talking about marketing and we know Disney's less than positive reaction to The Age Of Ultron's box office take, which IMO is insane. AOU was hardly a failure for not beating Avatar, but we also don't know what they're expectations for TFA are. I just can't the name Star Wars being enough to sell the movie.

But, wait. Both times were run by Lucas, right?

Also, we had plenty of video games before TPM. I played Dark Forces to death when I was younger. Yoda Stories too.

It's more about quality than quantity. Disney buying the franchise is the best thing that could have happened to it. Other than the current Lucas being revealed to be an impostor and the Lucas from the 1980s returned to us.

We're getting six new Star Wars movies it certainly sounds like we'll be getting more quantity than quality.

How can you judge the quality of something that hasn't been released yet?

I'll actually wait for the various products to come out before passing judgement.

Do you think Disney cares that much about quality? That was the true when Walt Disney was still alive, but I don't think that's the case now. I'm perfectly willing to wait and see, but I would like to see alittle of what I'm waiting for, so far I can't really get very excited yet.

I think it will be a mixed bag, given the variety of directors and writers that will be involved. Like any other project, it will require time to iron out all the wrinkles, and establish the tone of it.

Also, I'm still curious as to how Disney running things automatically equals that it is bad  Honestly I see more promotional similarities to TPM at this point in time than anything else.

Does Disney care about quality? No.

Does LFL and Kathleen Kennedy? Yes.

Disney seems to be more than willing to let LFL do their thing, so long as it makes Disney a profit.

About the only thing I'm disappointed about where Disney is concerned, is that there is no The Force Awakens video game coming. Even though movie-based games usually tend to be pretty bad.

For the first time in my life, I'm finding myself more interested and spending more money on Star Wars than Star Trek.

And I didn't say that Disney's control is automatically a bad thing. And I think, I could wrong though but I thought TPM had at least four trailers within two months of the official release of the movie.

I honestly just need one, a few weeks before opening. There is already quite a bit out there to whet the appetite of fans.

But, the rules have changed with regards to how trailers get released and how long theaters are willing to run them.

I'm not trying to pick on you, DWF, I just am trying to understand your discomfort. I'll freely admit I was not that excited for TFA until the second teaser, and the merchandising hit. Then I felt a little bit like a little kid, reminding me of waiting for TPM to come out, mispronouncing Amidala, and things like that.

I think that Disney will manage Star Wars fine, and we'll get sick of it just like the Marvel movies did-except I think that will take a little longer than my Marvel fatigue ;)

Regardless of Disney's other faults, it does appear that they are working towards consistency in the presentation of the new material, from books, comics, and films, and the rest.

As I said in another post, I think after October is done, the marketing will be turned up more. That's just my gut instinct.

This.

Too much, too soon can be a bad thing. People would get sick of it before it ever makes it to the theater.

I, for one, prefer a conservative approach.

Getting hyped up about a movie that won't be released for months = bad thing. Especially if it's supposed to be a huge blockbuster like TFA.

This movie should be so huge that it has legs. The idea that people won't go see it because it wasn't advertised well enough is faulty on many levels.

If it's a box-office disappointment, it will be for one reason only: because it's a disappointment as a film.

The merchandising really doesn't mean much for me, the movie really is all that matters for me, there's no way I can or would want to keep with all the books and comic books. And I'm not brimming over with confidence about Abrams as much as I personally like his Star Treke movies, they do have their probleme. And Disney isn't the innovators they were when I growing up.

Disney already has us wanting more to the point where we're begging for a trailer or any scene. It may be the most genius marketing even conceived, they do nothing and we're still hyped for it.
