Star Wars Clone Wars Season Premiere

Yeah I'm familiar with what Zhan attempted to do in "Outbound Flight" and thought his explanation of Palps motivation was fun, but it still really doesn't fit in with the context of his character we're shown in the films.

Agreed. I think the only thing Palpatine enjoyed more than power was manipulating people. That was his drug of choice and that was what he enjoyed to do.

^ Agreed on this point...we see a physical example of this aspect of his character while he is watching the fight between Anakin and Dooku and then of course later on the second Death Star between Luke and Vader. It would actually be interesting to put Sidious up against other Sith Lords to see how he would fair just for fun.

Agreed. That would be a lot of fun.

During the duel with Yoda, Palpatine is clearly enjoying himself and having a blast. He also yelled out "Poooooower! Unlimited power!" when he was lighting up Mace Windu like a Christmas tree. He does enjoy what he's doing.

While he's screaming that wondrous line his own face is just contorted and twisted with glee and that's before Mace deflects the force lightning to deform it.

I thought that Palpatine was going to have an orgasm in those scenes. He really seemed to get off on watching people fight to the death.

I think Sidious is the greatest Sith Lord, despite what the EU is offering with Darth Krayt from the Legacy comics or the Sith Emperor from The Old Republic game and other media. I think Sidious would fare well against all the other Sith Lords, including Darth Bane, Darth Caedus, and Exar Kun. He had the power, lightsaber skill, and the head games. From what I've read, I think Bane is probably the one closest to him that could really give him a go.

I think he is the greatest Sith Lord as well...he has full filled Darth Bane's dream and used the Rule of Two to it's fullest potential and was never killed by any of his apprentices until Darth Vader was eventually turned back to the light side of the force by his son.

He successfully wiped out the Jedi Order and ruled the entire galaxy for twenty years. I'd say he comes out on top :D

The position of the EU has always been that he is most powerful Sith Lord. In the Dark Empire Comic and in the ROTS novel, he is written as the Dark Side incarnate.

However Palpatine being the most effective is another question entirely.

I would argue that Palpatine was the most effective Sith Lord. To my knowledge his empire lasted longer than any other Sith Lords, with the exception of the Sith Emperor from the Old Republic whose history is getting fleshed out. Even if Palpatine's reign was shorter, he controlled pretty much the known galaxy while the Sith Emperor is locked in a cold war with the Republic. Palpatine subverted the Republic, convincing many to willingly give up their freedom for the security of his Empire.

Also, Palpatine did this with only one apprentice at a time. Granted the EU also added some dark siders like Asajj Ventress and Tol Skorr to assist him, but Palpatine didn't have the armies of Sith that the Sith Emperor, Darth Krayt, Exar Kun, or Naga Sadow had.

Ventress is barely acknowledged and she is meant to be Dooku's apprentice not Palpatine's. In fact Filoni in the audio commentary for the Clone Wars movie states that Sidious doesn't consider her existence at all.

New episode! 2X3 "Supply Lines"

Another average episode. Well for a Jar Jar episode it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Sounds like Ahmed Best is back to voicing Jar Jar after that 1-2 episodes with that horrible impersonator. Why is Bail Organa the boringest character in all of Star Wars?

Well looks like this episode briefly explained the seeming inconsistency of that Padme episode last season. The Trade Federation is officially neutral, secretly in league with the Seperatists, and Nute Gunray is officially considered an "extremist" by the Federation.

It was a political episode but it wasn't bad. The last few minutes were awesome. I found Lott Dodd to be funny.

I think this is one of their episodes overlapping earlier ones in the timeline. I recall a 3-parter about the siege of Ryloth, and I think the first aired episode was about Yoda going to Toydaria to negotiate a treaty with the Republic.

Wow. That was thoroughly underwhelming. Aside from a few short moments on Ryloth, the characters spend the entire episode rooted where they stand doing nothing except talking. And their conversation isn't meaningful or profound or thematic. At first it's all exposition. Second it's dry debate (a debate rendered completely irrelevant in the very next scene as the Toydarian king basically ignores his the debate). Heck, they even have exposition dialogue on Ryloth.

What does it say when is an episode is so bad that Jar Jar's antics might actually be a legitimate high point?

I just can't believe Jar Jar successfully made that little stack without knocking it over. :p

I certainly understand the need for stories like this though. They have a hundred episodes to make, but nothing of importance can ever happen because it takes place between the two movies. Basically the only event that can ever happen is Asoka dying/going dark. So that basically leaves you with A) lightsaber duels or B) Jedi and Clones versus robots. Lord knows that gets repetitive fast. They need these off-format episodes, as bad as they are sometimes

I'd like to see an episode that is just a news report that the public watches, showing what the popular opinion is about the war and the main characters. We only see the upper echelons, what about Joe Q. Galaxy?
