I also have Tatooine Ghost, Tales from the New Republic and Tales of the Bounty Hunters coming from Ebay sellers. I know I never read Tatooine Ghost, which has an interesting subplot of Leia finding out stuff about Anakin and his Mother, and if I read either of the either two it was years and years ago at the public library (which has since lost most of its SW books without replacing them), so I'm really excited to read (possibly reread) those, too.
That's all old EU stuff obviously. I have no plans to read any New Canon books until the next Thrawn stuff comes out. I almost bought Alphabet Squadron (since the library never bothers to get 90% of the new SW books, and this seemed to have an interesting premise, I seriously considered just buying it) , but its gotten mediocre reviews and as someone who is already fairly critical of the New Canon books it didn't seem worth the money to get that (especially since I ended up getting several old EU books that I really wanted for the same price).
I might look up a synopsis of that Resistance Reborn book, but since the books nowadays tell such inconsequential stories, I doubt it has anything interesting enough for me to even do that.
I'm not going to read books prior to the film but will afterwards. It will be an experiment for me to see how the books inform the filmPersonally, I'm really looking forward to that one, but then again, I'm really psyched for the movie and the characters. (As I understand it, the Rise of Skywalker tie-ins are mostly about how the Resistance rebuilds from its decimation in TLJ to whatever it is in the new movie. Mileage may vary on how consequential that is in premise or execution.)
Read Tatooine Ghost. It's fine for what it is (was an early post-ROTJ book to tie the original trilogy and the prequels together), but I've never had the desire to re-read it. (It also creates a plot hole in the Thrawn books, that come next, but I wouldn't let that stop you reading it.) The Tales books were fun. Remember liking New Republic (mostly stories about non-movie characters), but I don't remember it very well. Bounty Hunters had one of the better roster of stories (although a few didn't grab me), although it seems to have more continuity issues then the other installments.

Resistance Reborn is out tomorrow and it's the first Disney Star Wars novel that I'm actually interested to read. I'm sure it will be nothing special but being set after TLJ, it'll fun to see how they recover from that squash they got from the Empire.
The proper book is Thursday in the uk. Probably could have gotten it quicker on book depository but I didn’t care that much.Resistance Reborn came out yesterday. At least on Kindle in the U.S. I'm a little less than halfway done. Its been fun so far.

I'm a fan of the other Tales From/of books, so I'm sure I'll enjoy those. Plus, Mara Jade has a story in the New Republic one, so anything with my favorite SW character is great, and in this case its even written by Timothy Zahn so that's even better.
The bounty hunter book has less stories, but longer ones I'd guess, since the book doesn't seem any shorter then the New Republic one.
As for Tatooine Ghost, I'm not a huge fan of Troy Denning (his Joiner War trilogy is probably the worst Star Wars EU "event" story in my opinion), but I've never read it and it has enough interesting elements to make it worth getting for me.
I'm extremely excited for the film (I've loved all the new films except Solo), but I'm sure the movie itself will do any needed explanation of how the Resistance rebuilt, even if its just a few lines. At least enough to satisfy me.
Still, for some of us, it's more fun to see it happen then just hear a handwave.
I personally would prefer to see it happen, but the book may suffice. However, I never put much weight behind the books even if they are highly entertaining some times. Star Wars books were always hit and miss for me, but this new canon at least intrigues me more than Legends post ROTJ.Still, for some of us, it's more fun to see it happen then just hear a handwave
”Wait, wait, wait.” Finn held up a hand, eyes narrowed. “You want me to go with you into an occupied city and pretend to be some crime lord at an underworld auction so we can steal a list of the First Order’s top-secret most wanted? A list the First Order and a number of unsavory sketchy types would happily kill us for if they knew we had it?”
Poe hesitated. He had been sure that Finn would be up for it. “What? That doesn’t sound like fun to you?”
“Hell, yes, that sounds like fun. I’ll do it!” Finn said, clapping his hands together and laughing.
Marvel.com has posted a preview of the first issue of the new post-Empire Strikes Back comic series.
Looks like it picks up pretty close to the end of Empire.
