Star Wars Books Thread

I really, really hope you're not a parent, because you have some strange ideas of what's appropriate for what age group. You'd probably be one of the parents who lets their 10 year old watch stuff like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

Yeah, because the show that is specifically written for people younger then Rebels, which was already written for people younger then TCW, is definitely not a toddler show  I mean, ok, maybe 4-5 year olds on the outside, but they'd have to be pretty bored 5 year olds to watch that show.

That said, the toddler show has been cancelled, so apparently they can aim the demographic of a SW show too low. Hopefully, if they do another Star Wars cartoon (not counting the return of TCW, since I think thats a limited thing), its aimed more like how TCW was aimed, or at least a bit above Rebels level. I also hope Filoni isn't in charge of it, but he'll never quit or lose his job, unfortunately.

I bought the Dooku one. The last few I’ve read have been pretty dull so I hope this one delivers. Be curious if this gives the Disney timeline reason why he leaves the Order.

You just proved my point once again, you are obviously totally clueless as to what is appropriate for what age group.

The damn show was specifically made for younger kids. Sure, they wanted as many fans as they could get, but it was specifically made for young kids. Maybe saying Toddlers was a bit hyperbolic, but it was definitely aiming at people too young to watch Rebels (which itself was aimed at a much younger audience then TCW).

It also gets about 200,000ish less viewers per episode then Rebels did, which is why its getting cancelled and hopefully they've learned for this.

Younger doesn't mean 4-5 year old. That's like a Sesame Street or Mister Rogers age range, and Resistance was definitely for older than that. I'd say 8-9 year olds maybe as the youngest I'd go with it, while Rebels and The Clone Wars I'd go maybe 11-12, especially for the later episodes.

I wonder if the reason the teaser for Project Luminous was so vague is because it ties directly into something from Rise of Skywalker, either as a direct follow up or exploring some big new reveal we get in it.
I would say that's a logical assumption. As the big post-saga novel-and-comic thing, which is going to exist without a movie to play off of for the first time in a while (phrasing it that way almost reminds me of "Shadows of the Empire," which was basically pitched as doing a movie tie-in blitz without an actual movie to promote), I'd be surprised if it didn't somehow build off of the now-completed story.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time franchise people were vague about what was coming even when it wouldn't really be a spoiler (looking at you, title of "Avengers: Endgame"). It may just be they want to save the specific announcements about Luminous for once they've entered the post-movie doldrums and need to have something new to tell us.

For Clone Wars I would actually say Teen range later on. They’ve said in interviews that they wrote the show so it would age with the audience. Getting more mature as the audience was.

Cad Bane has someone tortured to death vis electrocution on screen, that’s pretty damn dark.

Though IIRC, some scenes were cut out of the TV airing, and only included in the home media and streaming release, not sure if that was one of them.

Even Rebels did some things that surprised me for a kids show. Not necessarily inappropriate or unsuitable for children, just some story content seemed more directed at grown ups, like Agent Kallus becoming disillusioned at his empty Imperial life at the end of that episode he and Zeb were stranded on that planet Enemy Mine style.

The thing about TCW and Rebels is that the show content was written to expect the audience to grow up with it. They start preteen and the content's target group goes up as the audience gets older. By the last seasons of TCW, the content in late teens, to nearly adult. Rebels gets to teens level content by the end. Resistance seems to be jumping ahead in style a little for its last season, but it also appear to be a box project. Tailored to fit in the timeframe of the Sequel Trilogy, which isn't very long. Gives other teams time to finish TCWs and probably get concept art and stories ready for the next animation series that follows Resistance and the conclusion of TCW.

The reference is to Resistance. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe because of Kaz being a bit goofy at times and maybe Neeku as well.
That and the art style shift from Rebels to Resistance so more so than the shift from TCW to Rebel...though TCW was stylized to fit with the older Clone Wars cartoon that came out between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Resistance is a bit lighter than Rebels and The Clone Wars, with smaller scale stories, but it's still not a "toddler show".

From my (admittedly incomplete) experiences, all three series start in similar places. The first two grew with their audiences. Resistance has the chance to do the same.

You'll want to check your facts again; Resistance wasn't canceled, it was always planned to be a two season show.

I've been wondering if they made Resistance this short, because they wanted to keep animated Star Wars on the air while they wait to do another, bigger series after The Rise of Skywalker. Not to imply that they don't care about or didn't put any effort into it, because they pretty clearly did and do.

Maybe. From the interview, it sounded like they wanted the series to lead up to Episode 9, and two seasons was the way to do that. So far as I know, though, they've been quiet about what comes after Rise of Skywalker.

The rest of the Clone Wars will be one season to complete it. How they release it, I am currently unaware.

However there is also the huge gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens that is ripe for story telling....once they no longer have a film in the work for after that timeframe,

It's a Disney Plus exclusive, they announced that when they announced it was coming back IIRC. Either way it's been known for a while now.
