Star Wars Books Thread

And reminder it wasn't Disney's idea to start the EU over.
LucasFilm was already planning to do this if George had made his sequel movies, because we all know he would have ignored 99% of the Post-ROTJ EU.

According to Pablo Hidalgo at least. I would post proof, but he wipes his twitter regularly so people don't use his tweets as the basis of news articles.

Been reading Joiner King book 1 of the Swarm War Trilogy and currently in the middle of the book. story's real good and its been awhile since I was reading the regular older Star Wars stuff where last year and this year I was buy with the High Republic Light of the Jedi books.

the rest of this month and in June Im going to be busy with the rest of the Swam War Trilogy books and next month there's going to be another new High Republic novel which it comes out a day right before my birthday

My favorite Star Wars character is Kyle Katarn.

People put way, way, way too much much emphasis on canon status for personal enjoyment.

Andor, in my mind, is basically a new adaptation of Kyle Katarn, minus the Force. He even uses a Bryar pistol, for crissake.

while I was in the Walmart store last night I was checking out what new books they had in the aisle. saw the new Star Wars hardcover book Living Force.

anyone read that one yet? is it any good for a prequel book?

Yeah, except Kyle is far more charming, and far less irritable.

Those DF books are terrible. I've got them; W.C. Dietz should never have been allowed anywhere near the franchise, or that character. Some of the artwork is decent, though.
I enjoyed some parts, didn't enjoy others. Regardless, Katarn is a great character, and his canon status has no bearing.

I read The High Republic (Phase I) vol. 2: Jedi's End, which is the last book in the core comic book series for Phase I. I really enjoyed it, it had good writing and nice art, with some interesting developments that set things up for Phase III. I'm planning to check out the other Phase I comics, and at least the YA books before I move on to Phase II. I'm hoping to read the adult books too, but the library app I get them from limits the number of people who can borrow a book at one time, and every time the next one I have to read, The Rising Storm, is available I'm in the middle of reading something else and it's gone by the time I finish. I'm curious to see how the other books involve the big events we saw in the comics. Is there anything from Phase II that ties into Phase III? With the way this ended I'm tempted to just right to Phase III, but I'm assuming there's probably a reason Phase II jumped back in time the way it did, instead of following right on from the end of Phase I.

JD, Phase 2 fills in some backstory on things like the Nameless and the Nihil. I have not read any Phase 3 yet, but I assume that the authors will fill you in on what is necessary for the story they are telling.

the next new main adult star wars novel High Republic Temptation of the Force comes out next month on the 11th. that'll be a good birthday present to myself

OK, I'll probably go ahead and read Phase II first then.

I finished reading The Living Force. The Council members and their interactions with the regular citizens of Kwenn are the highlights. However, so much page space is given over to Zilastra and the pirates, and they are not very compelling. On balance, I give it a three out of five. I would read 1,000 pages of Yarael Poof and Ki-Adi-Mundi together; they were my favorites here.

this summer in June I'm going to be busy with the other two books of the Dark Nest Trilogy. first book was pretty good.

Asking those who have read the old Dark Nest Trilogy books, what did you folks think of the Dark Nest Trilogy?

They were OK. I had read them without reading most of the NJO and was going to use them as a jumping on point for the books from that point on, but never ended up reading anything after them.
