Star Trek XII New Information Thread

I have read a lot of speculation about the new movie. Some of it makes me cringe a little inside, like the rumors I keep reading that the villain will be a remake of Khan. That just bugs the TOS fan in me, I have a hard time envisioning anyone other than Ricardo Montalban as Khan. He was and remains, at least in my own tiny Trek Fan opinion, the best villain they ever created. Even today, when he is on screen in Wrath of Khan the man captivates and owns the scene.

I love Trek, and I am really anticipating the new movie in a positive fashion but there is a part of me which is afraid that if they recast Khan, I'm going to find myself comparing whoever the actor may be chosen to taken his place to Ricardo Montalban and it won't measure up.

This is not to say that I'll hate it.. when the nuBSG series was being promoted, as a fan of the original series (and yes I'm dating my age a tad here.. I watched it when it was originally aired and I still have the viper, cylon raider and even the original galactica models from 1979 / 1980 that I was given as a kid) I really expected to hate it. I fully expected to be disappointed and angry by the nuBSG series and yet..

By the end of the first part of the mini-series, just the first night, I was hooked. It was amazingly well done.

So while I have my reservations, I'm going to wait and see. I've been pleasantly surprised before!

I was reading the Wikipedia article and looking at the pic of Alice Eve... I think it's the Talosians. Since the Enterprise wasn't commissioned until 2258 in this timeline, it makes sense that nobody's gone to Talos yet.

Nobody has mentioned the talosians appearing in the comics yet so it is a possibility.

The Talosians would fit well into Lindelof & Co's favorite themes of mystery and myth and deception and non linear storytelling and alternate (imagined) universes and and and.

Why no news lately? It's almost starting.

It's possible they're already quite busy counting the money from their lazy writing Khan rehash, and don't have time or inclination for press releases.

My own suspicion, however, is that they're back in Hawaii. Location shooting is almost always done before soundstage shooting. Why not arrive a bit early and make a vacation of it?

Yes but would they look like they did in "The Cage" or would they have a slightly altered look?

Updated, at least. Compare the Andorians or Tellarites as seen in The Original Series vs. Enterprise.

But I really can't imagine Talosians as villains in a big budget action movie, unless it's gonna be a bunch of pointless expensive dream sequences.

Simon Pegg is in L.A. now prepping for the filming, so it seems they are shooting in L.A. now.

I hope they are not going to involve Talosians and have endless extensive dream sequences. Fans who care for that sort of thing already have a franchise they can see that in: it's called A Nightmare on Elm Street.
