Star Trek XII New Information Thread

Prediction: Ensign Spyke will die a grisly redshirt death.
Hey, apparently filming begins Jan. 15. We do not know really anything about the storyline or it's setting, or even who the main adversary is.
Perhaps somebody else knows more than I do?

Yes on the January 15 start date for principal photography, and no, we really don't know much else.
Expect to continue not knowing much else for the foreseeable future, because that's the way J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot do things. Over the next 12 to 15 months, we will find out only small bits and pieces—casting info, mostly, and perhaps a few vague hints about characters, scene settings or story details—and (barring the odd accidental discovery of a location shoot) we will hear about them only if and when the filmmakers are ready to let them be known.
Going by the way things went for the last movie, we should start knowing real things around the time the first trailer hits the theaters and the first Entertainment Weekly feature hits the interwebs. So yeah, this time next year-ish.
Therefore there is little reason to keep this thread open. If as you say no new info is likely for another year. What's the point in regurgitating the same rumors and speculative remarks on this thread?

Bob Orci teased on Trekmovie.com ages ago, asking how far into the 5-year mission it should be set. A subsequent interview said that "some time" will have passed between the two movies.
In that time, IDW's ongoing nuTrek comic is retelling TOS stories with the new crew is taking place (so far they've done "Where no man..." and "The Galileo Seven", with an all-new adventure coming after that, and Digital Extremes are releasing a (supposedly canon) game next year - so, come Star Trek XII, the crew will me more experienced, with a few adventures under their collective belt.

That's actually kind of a disappointment. I was hoping Admiral Pike (back on his feet!) to play a big role in STXII, not a disposable cameo.

They should have other TOS elements like Janice Rand and Carol Marcus than worrying about Pike. His being in the story could be a detriment to Captain Kirk's authority. Depeneds how he is written.
Pike is a great mentor and friend to Kirk and Kirk is in his first command. Will he get out of the wheelchair?
Actually that rumor is very old.
And really unlikey, since they already killed off Gary Mitchell in the second issue of the ongoing nuTrek comic.
