@TE, I wouldn't say Tom & BLT is the greatest couple in film, but I like your argument for them.
Not sure myself who I would say. I'd have to think about that. It certainly isn't Rose & Jack. I've wondered how spoiled little Rose got along after rejecting her mother and fiancé in that time period. We know she marries and has children and a life with her husband, but then when she dies, it isn't her husband, but Jack she wants to see--?
I will say Ilsa and Bogart's character in "Casablanca" comes to mind as a memorable couple, although they don't stay together. The nobility of their self-sacrifice is impressive. Mmm, I'll have to think about great film couples...
