Star Trek trailer description (Spoilers)

seems cliched with Kirk being a rebellious teen who is destined for greatness and doesn't fit in.

I thought it was just me. I half expect the kid to say "Tom Paris." Better still, following the carwreck, Kirk could drunkenly challenge his stern father (played by Zephrem Cochrane) to a fistfight. The movie won't be called Star Trek. It'll be called T.

No trailer here in Taiwan (we got the new 007 on Friday) Not that I expected it, but I was eagerly awaiting seeing the trailer online today because I assumed the US was getting Bond on the 7th also.
One funny thing I'll add is that the gun barrel scene is at the END of Quantum of Solace. It bugged me for the first 10 minutes of the movie.

I'm glad that that spoiler that nobody asked for was so germane to the current discussion

Kirk and Spock arguing seems forced and unnecessary. Why does everything always depict the best of friends being bitter rivals when they first meet? That's becoming as much a cliche as two best friends hitting it off great when they first meet.

Sorry, I'm not impressed. Not at all.

Sorry, have you read the script? Do you know WHY Kirk and Spock (apparently..) don't get along as soon as they first meet?
I sure don't... so I reserve my judgement until next May!

I am of course pre-judging the movie based on what limited information is currently available. And I don't like it.

I admit it being possible (if highly unlikely) that the end result could be the best damn movie that ever was. That doesn't mean I can't bitch and moan about it in the meantime.

One thing that does disappoint about this trailer is that it neither confirms or denies the existence of the Space Octopus. Come on, I want to see this thing in action, if it's real.

It's entirely possible that the visuals for it are not yet completed. Something I read recently had Orci saying that only 50% of the FX were done at this point (so in retrospect, I guess it's a good thing that the release date got pushed back until May).

I have only one question. Where is the Enterprise?
J.J. could really be an ass and make us wait 'til the actual movie to see that...

However, with the Enterprise being one of the most recognizable things from Star Trek to the general public, if only from a marketing standpoint, I can't see how they don't include it in the trailer. And if not in this trailer, than in one following it.

Anyway, I loved the part in the description on AICN where McCoy says: "Space isn't supposed to fun! It's full of aliens and phasers and death!"

I'm sorry, but that dialogue utterly FAILS to inspire confidence...it's trite, cheesy, and unprofessional on the part of a Starfleet officer...

KIRK: "Hey guys let's go have some fun in space!"

McCOY: "Space isn't supposed to be fun! It's full of aliens and phasers and death!"

SPOCK: "Technically, space is empty, which is why it's called 'space'. And why no one can hear you scream."

KIRK: "Killjoys."

Yeah, 'cause that "spoiler" is equal to Vader being Luke's father - no doubt about it.

NOOOOO!!!!! YOU JUST SPOILED STAR WARS FOR ME YOU BASTARD!
I knew that before I even saw the movies (says he who didn't see them till about 2005) I wouldnt worry you arnt missing much, im just pissed all my Luke & Leia fan fics are not very very creepy & wrong.

:guffaw:

When the article says young/baby Spock does anyone else picture the young spock from The Search for Spock.

But when McCoy calls Spock a green blooded SOB in front of others...thats okay.

The thing is it won't be the best movie ever and it won't be the worst movie ever either. To expect it to be only one or the other is unrealistic and guarantees disappointment in the case of expecting the best and apathy if it's not as bad as you thought it'd be.

The best part about all this(Aside from obvious coming awesomeness of the trailer) is that the vast majority of people seeing 007 will have no clue this is coming :D

The Bond forum people are very pissed that trek people will be filling up good seats to see the trailer, but also figure that they will be able to move to those better seats once you vacate and skip seeing QOS.

Interesting overlap between trek and bond devotees ... most older Bond folks are TOS fans, but even the idiots who think Daniel Craig is the second coming don't seem overly enthused with the new trek movie. And the ones with better taste are often scornful as well.

Can't say that really does anything for me. You know, I really want to look forward to this movie, but all the available info does not make me look forward to it.

To be fair, there is nothing inheritantly bad in this trailer description, but there's also not anything that's any good. Teenage rebellious Kirk driving a car over a cliff, being chased by cops? This is the first time we'll ever see a civilian law enforcement agency on a Federation planet in all Trek. Kirk and Spock arguing seems forced and unnecessary. Why does everything always depict the best of friends being bitter rivals when they first meet? That's becoming as much a cliche as two best friends hitting it off great when they first meet.

Please tell me he's not fleeing the law. This is all very tom cruiseish. Kirk is not a loose canon. He's a stack of books with legs according to Mitchell. Mitchell was the bad boy. They already tried the muscle car chase with Picard. It didn't work. Couldn't they invest in a creative consultant, someone with so-called inside information, to maybe make a few simple suggestions like hey maybe a Picard clone is not a good idea for a story or something like that ?
