Maybe the scene with the Corvette is Kirk reacting to the terrible news that his father has been killed aboard the Kelvin.
Actually....thats not a bad idea, and it makes sense.
Yeah, in a certain context it could be a powerful scene...or a lame one. Which is why I'm not going to make a call on that until I see the trailer.
Yeah -- I've always said that execution of plot is more important than plot itself.
A trite-sounding scene like the one decribed with Kirk and the 'vette COULD be very hokey if done poorly. But if a scene like that is executed well, and it fits well with the overall context of the story, then those "trite" scenes suddenly become "classic" scenes.
...that is, as long as the soundtrack isn't playing "Take my Breath Away" by Berlin as Pine is driving...
