Maybe the scene with the Corvette is Kirk reacting to the terrible news that his father has been killed aboard the Kelvin.

Actually....thats not a bad idea, and it makes sense.

Yeah, in a certain context it could be a powerful scene...or a lame one. Which is why I'm not going to make a call on that until I see the trailer.

Yeah -- I've always said that execution of plot is more important than plot itself.

A trite-sounding scene like the one decribed with Kirk and the 'vette COULD be very hokey if done poorly. But if a scene like that is executed well, and it fits well with the overall context of the story, then those "trite" scenes suddenly become "classic" scenes.

...that is, as long as the soundtrack isn't playing "Take my Breath Away" by Berlin as Pine is driving...

I wonder if Kirk is going to kill himself and then pussies-out at the last minute. It doesn't really make sense for him to just want to destroy the car and there are easier ways.

Ermmm.. how can someone actually TELL that? Did Paramount go measure the ship?

I was the first to point this out way back when the first high res stills from the teaser trailer were put out. There were several shots where you could see into the saucer rim through unfinished plating and could see interior deck structures as well as people walking around.

I did calcs back then indicating a 3-5 deck thick saucer at the rim, and using that as a measure came up with a larger than Jeffries ship.

We have no idea yet how accurate the teaser Enterprise is to the real thing - all we've seen of it is a tiny piece of the leading saucer edge visible through the viewscreen, and even that doesn't match up perfectly.

If it doesn't? Oh well. It could still be a cool movie, and we still have the old ship.

I have only one question. Where is the Enterprise?

J.J. could really be an ass and make us wait 'til the actual movie to see that...

However, with the Enterprise being one of the most recognizable things from Star Trek to the general public, if only from a marketing standpoint, I can't see how they don't include it in the trailer. And if not in this trailer, than in one following it.

Unless it's about the people, and not the toys.

That crossed my mind, too. A Thelma and Louise moment. Why would even the most reckless andreneline junky (and Kirk struck me as one) drive an antique car full tilt towards a cliff just to see if he could stop before it went over? Unless it's not his car and he meant to destroy it.

And that cliff better not be too large. This is Iowa. Parts are actually quite hilly, and there are cliffs, but not any 1000 footers I'm a aware of -- outside of river bluffs along the Mississippi and Missouri, perhaps.

As far as it being a stick, goes, maybe it was modified to be shifted without the need for a clutch. That would resolve one canon contradiction issue.

I think I know the footage you're talking about. The "spy" shots of too little boys (10 or 11ish) in a 'vette out in Bakersfield. So that would mean his brother was in the car with him. So maybe they were joyriding and things got out of control. But there's no mention of a passenger in the car with him in the trailer (at least not in descriptions I've read).

Reminds me of an episode of Taxi where Jim was at a party and volunteered to play piano when the musician was a no-show. After a few seconds of clinkers, he startled everyone by suddenly playing beautiful classical piano. Kind of puzzled himself, he looked up and said thoughtfully, "I must've had music lessons."
