They also say in the episode that the ships have safety protocols that prevent linking the ships
Ok, that makes more sense.

As for the meld working across ships, I take this as a magical property of the Star Trek universe. It works in the same space as Spock feeling the deaths of the Intrepid crew or Troi being able to read the minds of alien creatures who are on different ships.
Why did they need ancient phones not long ago to sync their thruster operations? :D

The existence of subspace and psychic powers throw the Theory of Relativity and Mass-Energy equivalence out the window.
That's simply not the case, as neither subspace nor psychics have anything to do with relativity or equivalence.

Well that was like three ideas crammed into one episode. One part epic fantasy, one part Doctor Who and a dash of Star Trek. Gave it a 6.

This is the first time I spotted a canon issue. Spock and Kirk meld in this episode yet in TOS "Devil in the Dark" he asks Kirk if he was familiar with the Vulcan technique.

I thought it was a decent season finale. Season one finale is still tops IMO, but I'm glad we didn't get a cliff hanger.

.
It clashes with Dagger of the Mind too where Spock says he never melded with a human before. I also just checked devils lines and spock says "you're familiar with the technique?" which could be a question or a statement. There's wiggle room

Clearly they abandoned that by the late 24th century, considering the Texas-class incident, the Living Construct incident and the Fleet Formation incident all occurred within 20 years of each other.:lol:

I liked the episode, but mostly for the Visitor-type use of a possible future. That could have been ... that should have been the entire episode. The mythos contrivance should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Ever since the JJ-verse allowed the "Alternate Timeline" to be canon, why are you so against it?

Heck even Lower Decks admits to the existence of Parallel Timelines / Worlds.
Alternate timelines were canon long before Lower Decks or the Abrams movies were a thing. Why is it so difficult to accept that continuity has never been the franchise's strong suit?
This season was worse than Star Wars Acolyte
What the fuck? Even taking into account that I will admit this season was SNW's weakest, and that I thought The Acolyte wasn't as bad as others claim, that statement is so wrong, I don't even know where to begin.

Also possible they filmed his bridge scenes the same time they filmed Sahlet's tail so they wouldn't have to redress the bridge for such a short scene.
I find that the far more likely scenario than they digitally inserted the Captain into the scene. Indeed, it wouldn't surprise me if all Paul Wesley's scenes in this episode were filmed off to the side of the other episodes he was in this season. IE, the Farragut bridge scenes were done while Sehlat's Tail was filmed, the scenes where he's in the Enterprise's lounge while something like 4 1/2 Vulcans or something like that.

I gave it a 10, I really liked it.

That's all I've got to add.

I need to get away from the negativity around here, it's causing me to second guess my feelings about this IP which has been a very enjoyable part of my life for almost 60 years.
Similar feelings here.
Why can't a Doctor Who reference be about Doctor Who????
Because Doctor Who needs to stay far away from Trek, IMHO. No good will come from it.

Kirk and Spock experienced it together in this episode so that question or statement now makes no sense. It's like going to a football game with a friend and then years later asking the same friend "Ever been to a football game before?"

There's a difference more obvious to Vulcans between connecting to coordinate thoughts and actions and connecting to search thoughts. He's never used that particular melding technique on a Human.

As an example of what I meant, you may have painted on a canvas before, but always with a brush, never my fingers or a paint sprayer. You may have sung before, but never opera or yodelling, always choir singing.

Wow this episode felt so weird. I liked that Batel got a send off. The future life story was great, Pike can now go into the accident having a fulfilled life. Yet this episode feels
like too much is going at one time, almost like it needed another 30mins. It also had series ending vibes to me. I don’t know I am going to give it a 7. The last two seasons have ended spectacularly, maybe they were going for something different here.

I was oddly not engaged for most of the episode. I didn't have strong feelings one way or another. There wasn't a hook for me to be interested in. The Evil Gamble Beings were back. Okay. Instead of being a Gorn mutate or something as was speculated, Batel has some other higher calling that feels out of nowhere. Okay. Spock doing a mind meld in public. I guess it shouldn't have jumped out at me since mind melds aren't nearly as private in these prequel shows as they were when the concept was introduced, but it still felt weird to be doing this in the Enterprise Bar and Grill.

I found the gift of Pike and Batel living a life together kind of touching and it was the best part of the episode because it gave Anson Mount some acting to do, but, again, not very involving. Then the alien battle (weirdly brief) and Batel spending eternity as a sentry very "meh." I really didn't care this was happening to her. I would have felt more for her if she, I dunno, died or something. If this wasn't so abstract to me, I would have felt worse for Pike, but none of this was interesting.

This season has either angered me or thrilled me, but this one just filled me with apathy. Like the Space Adventure Show" I was looking at my phone a lot. UNlike that episode, I actually stuck it out to the end.

And they're really shoving the "we're gonna do the KIRK SHOW!" with the 5 year mission, the "we're gonna be friends" and whatever else. Did they really need this ancient species to give them enough planets for a 5 year mission? Why couldn't the Federation just have info on their own? "Go in that direction and find stuff."

It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was a middle of the road 5/10. Too dull for a season finale, but not bad enough to hate. At least there wasn't a cliffhanger. TBH, the show could end right here and I'd be fine.

And, really, I think that might be the case for me anyway.
